Eighteen

So, yesterday was my eighteenth birthday. Officially an adult. Wow...kind of a smack in the face lol.

I got my drivers license yesterday, on my eighteenth birthday and hid the fact that I was taking my test from my mom, so I could surprise my entire family with the news. I was going to wait 'till we were at the restaurant to tell them, but they took their jolly good time in us leaving and so I told them all while we were still at my house. Probably a good thing, because the way they reacted (screaming and jumping up and down and laughing) would probably have caused quite a scene <_< I almost didn't pass the test actually, because I almost hit the curb on the way out of the parking space (and on practice driving before that I completely missed a "lane ends" sign...oh, what nerves will do to me B) ). But I did pass, with a little help from the Gods and all is well...I made offering of crackers with honey and milk as soon as I got home and my family departed (we don't have any wine in the house or I'd have given that, but crackers with honey seemed fitting).

My dad had flowers delivered (which was a huge surprise for me) and my mom gave me more art supplies. My grandma made me a blanket and the gift that means the most to me is a diamond ring given me by my grandma. My grandfather had given her the ring and I had been obsessed with it when I was a little girl. I had always stared at it, turning it on her hand to see the way the light sparkled off of the stones and she told me "it'll be yours someday". She pulled the box out of her purse and gave it to me, she told me "this isn't a birthday gift it's just something I wanted you to have" with tears in her eyes...it was the beautiful diamond ring I'd been obsessed with for so long. I had always admired it even to this day though I was no longer nearly so obsessed as I once was, but she never forgot her promise to that little girl... ;)

The other night my neighbor surprised me with a job offering, he wants me to tutor his daughter for somewhere around $50 a week (not bad, eh?) I'm happy about having the job, but I'm not happy that it's necessary...because his daughter (my friend) is doing very badly in school which is why I now have the job ;)

I didn't get my picture taken yet. I took the test at the school, so I have to wait till I get the photo card in the mail, then I have to go to get my picture taken. I hope I don't look any more psychotic than I actually am :(

On an off question LW, are you a man or woman (since your an adult now) I never quite new.

Anyways, congratulations on becoming an adult, you can vote now and all those jolly good things, though you can't drink. I'm only 13 so, I've still got 5 years, 5 years to pass a drivers test....that is....

I'm a woman lol...I know, I use a rather non gender specific name (I couldn't think of a good latin name when I signed up and everyone knows me as this so why change now?)

Yea, I can vote, lol and as my uncle said "if you get locked up now, it's for real" not that I plan on getting locked up LOL.

I don't think it'll take five years to pass your drivers test. It took me 2 years to get around to TAKING my drivers test, but I passed it on the first try.

Well the thing is...most states now make 18 to be the elgibility age. Because in Illinois where I'm from, they made it that those born in 1991 and plus now can only get their license at 18. Luckily I was born in 90. And until recently, they changed the required hours to 50 from 25, thats right after the day I got my license. :(

Happy Belated B-Day LW!

Been away myself, congrats on passing your driving test! I started driving with a learner's permit at 15! How the times change.

But seriously, 16 was too young for me to be turned loose with a car. Seriously...

Another belated b-day!

On my 16th birthday I drove to work for the first time by myself. Rather than come straight home after, I thought it would be fun to go driving around in the March weather. Well, after hitting 2 parked cars while careening out of control on an icy residential street, I sure wish I had went straight home. That night I thought it was the end of the world... amazing how the years change things :(

Congrats LW and enjoy!

Hehe I was sharing driving stories with my neighbor....

My first time behind the wheel of a car, first day with my permit, I was off the road on a small street near a very rich neighborhood. I was off the road, on the LEFT (for those in other countries that's the WRONG side of the road in America). A couple in a Lexus came by, I stopped the truck (still off the road) and you should have seen the looks on their faces, they were terrified (no doubt thinking I was drunk or something and they were driving thier shiny Lexus). Then they saw who was driving and burst out laughing! LOL I've gotten much better since then...

Thanks for the happy BDays!
