Great for carrying, but in battle I would absolutely *have* to flip my hand over. :) maybe its just me, my my hand hurts just THINKING about that grip. Besides, the thumb is the weakest point of anyone's grip.

As I said in the thread, you would have been obliged to practise with a much heavier shield in training , your a tough customer from upcountry ..perhaps you would have been inurred to the privation!

Looking at the position of the gladius here, it would seem rather difficult to make the draw as in the earlier picture.

 

Indeed it does , but, the segmental armour is so flexible that , even though it looks like the Gladius pommel is in the armpit....badda bing , your stabbed, you got blood all over your nice ivy league tunica .
