...one of the real pain in the ass consequences of having many fake accounts is that email get bounced, ALLOT! Which means the reputation with email providers (Gmail, hotmail, etc..) drops like a stone. Which in the end means almost no emails gets delivered, because everyone in the email-world thinks you really suck!

This happened in 2013 and with most of the internal notification system done via email, hardly anyone ever got a notification that someone replied, or that he got a new message or a post was quoted etc...

Which means we had a considerable drop in engagement as people just did not get notifications... In the end it got so bad i couldn't even send out a single email without having the dreadful "return to sender" mail coming back to me...

Luckily there are companies like Smtp2go. As of September we are using their service and it works like a charm. Not only does everything work again as it should be, now it is even better than before. Their reputation is so good that we can reach now people that had before our mails ending up in their spam folder...

All internal communication (and external for that matter) and notification are now via Smtp2go and you should get now all of them uninterrupted!

Around 2011 we saw a massive influx of new members, they had wonderful names like xxxcialisforyou, or pokersupergames or even less imaginative like xfgUlkzzio...

They did not post much and the few that did got quickly deleted by the moderators. On the surface they didnt bother anyone. Oh boy were we wrong. Those were little bastards that try to exploit known bugs in the software to get a foothole in the server and that all for one thing only. Use the site to send emails. If anyone remembers the many problems with the site startet around 2011. On top of that my host told me that my site has unusual high traffic (which we didnt) and shut down the site a couple of times without notice. It got so bad at one stage that the site was for months offline. No one could help. The hosting company insisted that it was my fault, but didnt tell us what exactly is the problem.

You must know our host was a very big company, with apparently very smart people but unfortunately not very caring ones, so they basically didnt give a f++++ what happend to our site. By accident i stumpled upon a little canadian company and they managed to quickly identify the problem and fix it.

Internal email and notification should finally work again as usual.

Lesson learned, new members that sign up and dont post within a month are deleted, sorry to lurkers, the spammers spoiled it for you...

My hometown in southern austria sucks in any sport except in hockey, thats the only thing we are good at, the only thing that attract crowds... (6 times austrian champion) and we have of course an arch enemy the capital Klagenfurt which is just 40 km to the east... yesterday for the 295th time we played against each other, thanks to the NHL lock out even with three players from the NHL Sam Gagner (Edmonton Oilers) and Tyler Myers (Buffalo Sabres) for the Reds and Michael Grabner (NY Islanders) for my team.

Michael Grabner is a native Villach guy, so it was a question of honor for him to play here. (btw. just a few miles to the south comes a Stanley Cup winner Anze Kopitar [slovenia] from the LA Kings)

...in any case, 1:3 and 2:4 behind and we turned the game in the last 10 minutes to a 5:4 win!

fantastic crowd, full house and very very loud!

    Blue and White forever!

here a highlight video of the game

...my road to loose weight will take much longer than i anticipated, however i make it as pleasant as possible and try to make lifestyle changes rather than just a diet and some workout. I started to read up allot on paleo and primal diet, (very low carb, lots of protein and fat), so if you are a vegetarian, this is defenitely not for you...

As with many things in live i rather aproach this with a relaxed attitude and small things can make a difference already. For example I knew one of my problems where my excessive coffee intace (caffeine stimulates insuline production), so i reduced it now to 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups in the afternoon (thats 50% less, so you see there was something i had to work on), of course i dont sweeten the coffee either, but with the spirit of primal eating i use full cream instead of milk (low fat is a total no go for primal eating).

I must say although i am far away from being primal, i do feel already much more energized, i am stronger, healthier and have more endurance, btw. weight is now at 111.8 kilograms = 246.476809 pounds which is compared to two months ago 117.2 kg (258,381771 pounds) so in 8 weeks i lost 5,4 kg (11.9049622 pounds) , thats 0.675 kilograms = 1.48812027 pounds per week which is very pleasing as i built muscle as well in that time, and its a rate that is sustainable for the next couple of months...

This is so much harder than i thought, almost a week since my last weight post and i only lost 0.1 kilograms = 0.220462262 pounds, I am not eating particulary much, neither unhealthy, in fact, i eat mostly vegetables and fruits and some meat, the only hope i have is that my muscle building is just as fast than my fat loss, (although i dont really see that in the mirror), i do however feel much more energized.

I finally got my first MP3 player (Ipod Shuffle which is ideal as its extremely small so doesnt bother me when exercising), it gives me the perfect opportunity listening to the Ancient Warfare podcast and to get distracted while working out... Its going to be a much longe ride than i thought but at least its fun while doing it....

Unheilig (German for "Unholy") is a German industrial rock band with various pop and electronic influences. They are around since 2000 but only last year they had theire breakthrough, impressive dark voice by lead singer Bernd Heinrich Graf (only known as Der Graf (The Count)...

I contaced (via email) every political party that is represented in austrian parliament! I had one question regarding a specific issue and what there stand is on it, and also if there are any person i could talk about it in my town and maybe (if i am happy with it) join their political party....

8 weeks later i must say it was rather interesting....

2 parties have not responded till today
2 parties have responded with a canned automatic response, not going into the fact that i want to speak with someone in my town
1 party did all i asked, (relatively quick reply, gave me contact person in my town and send me information how to become a member)
1 party i contacted even though they are not in the parliament, but getting lot of press lately here; the pirate party (but it is so chaotic there i couldnt work with them, i guess when you beyond a certain age, you need some sort of structure)

I had a constructive talk with representative of party Nr.5 and after i am back from Rio de Janeiro, i might join them. I am not going to be the next president, but i might change some local stuff that i always wanted to be fixed. What better way to actually try and do something about it than just complain, right?

...in my series of "what people are looking at Google", my todays freak search phrase is "Weapon worn on belt",it never has been in the Top 20 search phrases, i couldnt find it even in the Top 40, and yesterday all of a sudden hundreds of people are looking for "weapon worn on belt", there are of course two things that could have caused this, first, all of a sudden (crossword, TV show, news report) people are searching for this, or people have always searched for this in numbers but for some google algorythmic reason we got promoted for this search phrase by google yesterday.

I can see us on the first page for "weapon worn on belt" and it goes to our Legionary Equipment Page.

    cheers

You know this community is amazing, the latest giveaway Ancient Warfare Magazine Special has already over 200 entries, (so drop quickly a line that you are interested if you haven`t yet), the amazing thing though is how many people are actually dropping a little line, "how they like the site, how they appreciate the community, how they look forward to all the freebies, the book reviews etc... but most of all, that many want to give back, they tell me almost apologetic that they dont have the capacity or the knowledge to write articles or the skills to write a review but would still like to help the site. Very often, they mention that they would like to donate a few dollars to keep the site running. (btw. i reply to each and everyone in person)

Well, there it is, the Admins are thirsty page

...the cool thing about it is, that in the last 7 years we have been giving back almost all of the revenue that the ads bring in, in form of giveaways, review books etc., so if we get a beer, be assured that the community will get a big sip of it, as Seneca wisely stated "We should give as we would receive, cheerfully, quickly, and without hesitation; for there is no grace in a benefit that sticks to the fingers."

    ...and now cheers!

The news is now out on the forum and via our newsletter (you should get it during the course of the day), we are officially Tweeting now, if you never heard of Twitter and wonder what the heck is this all about, go to http://tweeternet.com/, its basically a micro-blogging service that allows people to type in short messages or status updates that can be read by people following them. An individual message or status update is often referred to as a 'tweet'.

If you go to http://twitter.com/UNRV you can see, first of all what we have written (always limited to max. 140 characters), also you see on the right hand site, Followers and Following.
Followers are people that are following what we have to say, Following are the people that we (UNRV) are following and therefor receiving their messages.

I found two authors via Twitter already (Adrian Murdoch and Caroline Lawrence are our followers and we follow them)

...in anycase if you have already an Account follow us, you might get a free map even... (read newsletter or forum and you know how)

    Happy Tweeting...

The carinthian sheep is a fairly recent breed, it was around the beginning of the 19th century that local farmers were looking for a sheep with a better wool then what was available. This was rather difficult because the two best breeds were from spain and england and both did not allow to export rams at the time, so they looked south to Italy and crossed their local the old Landschaf breed with the Bergamasca and Paduaner Sheep. The hardy, frugal Brillenschaf can cope with high precipitation and is expert in climbing, therefore it is used for grazing high alpine areas which are inaccessible to cows. By the end of the 19th century this breed was very popular and yearly about 30.000 sheep were exported to France at the time.

During WWI the Brillenschaf was very popular, due to its big size, (lots of meat), fine wool and being frugal. In the 1930

I got myself a 22" Monitor and what a pleasure it is to have that big display in front of you. I did not get rid of my old 19" Monitor though, but instead set up a Dual Monitor display. My GeForce 7950 has two DVI connections and so it is a simple plug and play procedure. Within the Nvidia Graphic Settings it is a breeze to set up the two monitors the way you like. You can have both monitors display only one area (an extension so to speak) or you can have two seperate individual Desktops, which i have choosen. So right now i have in front of me the 22" monitor were i type this blog entry and on the right i have my 19" monitor watching a youtube movie. It is just wonderful. This will also help me allot when coding too, as i can code on the one monitor and browse, chat, watch on the second.

I can only recommend to anyone to go Dual Monitor, it is such a time saver!

I have to admit, till a few days ago i never heard of this man. Wasn`t it for the History Channel that brought a documentary about him, i still wouldnt know what this man meant to the people of Nanking.

Why was he such a special person, you may ask? Well, John Rabe played the key role in saving the lives of more than 250,000 Chinese during the incident called the Rape of Nanking, i was so fascinated by this story that i had to look up more info on him and share this with you guys...

You can read his biografie here

Little update; had the hour with a personal trainer, and he put together a program for the gym. Lots of lifting going on now. Every part of my body has muscles that ache now, but its all for a good cause. Weight drops as slow as ever but i am determined. The nice thing is that the one hour CrossStep improved dramatically. A month ago i would manage in one hour 7 kilometers = 4.34 miles, now i get in on hour 9 kilometers = 5.59 miles. Maybe with my next update i will drop below 110 kg, i keep you up to date....

Similar to distributed super computers such as the SETI @ Home project, the BBC along with a bunch of Universities and the MET office call on users to help predict weather patterns. I dowloaded it and it looks pretty interesting...

I am not sure if all people know what a rss feed and a feedread is, so i will explain it a bit first...

more information here ---> What is RSS
Now that you know what rss is, and that the Unrv.com Blog has a RSS Feed, you need a RSS Reader to get that info without actually having to go to the site. For example i use Firefox (you should too) and there is a simple Rss Reader extension called Wizz RSS News Reader, just install that and then you get a nice RSS Agregator Toolbar, where you can add categories and Channels. For example, you create a category called UNRV then you create within the category UNRV a channel you give it the name Blogs and add underneath the rss fead of the UNRV.com blogs http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...g&cmd=syndicate

Now what happens is when you switch on your computer and you click on the RSS feader and then click on channels you will see immediately if there are new entries in the blog, just click then on the new entry sentence and you are brought to the actual blog, well it is easy and every one should use it, saves time keeps you up to date and oh btw our main site has a RSS Feed too

    cheers
    viggen
