  1. Well I think that the Roman Legions would have faired well against the Celtic or Germanic calvary. Though I think that Celtic or Germanic tribes could have at times used their forces better. If the Celtic or Germanic tribes were to create calvary, I doubt they would use them at the necessary times, in the necessary places. But if they would have gotten calvary the Roman Legions would have slaughtered them.
  2. It may have taken place, but such a thing would be very serious frowned upon by Roman society and the Roman Senate.
  3. I believe that they were not backwards. Only that it sounds that they were, many times.
  4. The Roman soldiers were very disciplined. Roman soldiers did receive hand to hand combat training, in case of the lose of weaponry during a battle. This training insured that the Roman soldiers were the best.
  5. No, I do not believe the Romans had in place laws restricting the possesion of weapons or armor.
  6. The Romans were the best army of their time. The Parthians relied mostly on superior numbers to win battles. The Romans had supreme tactics, and weapons. The Parthians though discovered that the Romans used simular battle tactics in each fight. Thought the Roman tactics were hard to counter, the Parthians could sometimes counter their tactics, but mostly the romans were too good and powerful, and would then subsequently crush the parthians counter-attack.
  7. The roman army also was a professional army. Some armies back in roman times, the soldiers were enslaved and forces to fight, the Roman soldiers, were not and subsequently fought harder.
  8. Well the Roman War machine was a very well organized and trained army. The roman army also had some of the best military weapons and leaders. The roman soldiers were also very well conditioned too, therefore they were able to fight on longer, and couple that with the roman military tactics and their very good training and equipment. One army could not beat a roman army, with even numbers, head to head, without a tactical error, by the roman commander.
  9. Well the Roman Legions were in battle, with Germans, etc. All of their enemies could have been carrying the plague, and after the battles, with the enemy, they sometimes would collect the dead, or camp for the night then leave the next morning. The decomposing bodies would be a breeding ground for all kinds of diseases.
