  1. Is it one of the somewhat more famous cities in Homer or one of the very many he just mentions?
  2. Do you have any pictures of it? I would be very interested in seeing how it looks!
  3. I'm going to guess that this is in greece or asia minor.
  4. Hello, Well, I am no big fan of late antiquity, neither do I know much about it, but I'm pretty sure that the senators were divided into classes in the late empire and being given different titles such as clarissima (the most shining) etc. Anyways, I'm sure that someone else here can help you at lot more!
  5. No problem what so ever! And out of curiosity, how is this relevant to you?
  6. I actually had no clue and I just downloaded the app. Just a question before I get an amazon account and everything; are there books for free (preferably classics like Dante, Vergil, Homer Shakespear etc) available as well?
  7. Definitely going to take a look (pun intended) at this as soon as possible.
  8. Damn I wish I had a kindle right now! Thanks for the heads up!
  9. Archaeologists who have completed the excavation of a 900-seat arts centre under one of Rome's busiest roundabouts are calling it the most important Roman discovery in 80 years. The centre, built by the emperor Hadrian in AD123, offered three massive halls where Roman nobles flocked to hear poetry, speeches and philosophy tracts while reclining on terraced marble seating.... Read more here. (Edit: this sounds like a fairly regular (but vaulted) Odeion to me)
  10. God Jul from Sweden! (yep, we celebrate the 24th, not the 25th)
  11. What crowd? I can only see Maladict!
  12. Is it is just me imagining gigantic speakers in the sky playing gangnam style day and night on a global scale?
  13. What's 'Ad Cat. I'? Cicero's First Oration against Catiline? :unsure:/> Yep, sorry for using the abbreviation, didn't even think about it.
  14. Gangnam style is gonna hit 'em poor lads at Alpha Centauri pretty soon...
  15. And I don't want to comment on what "I might like".
  16. Not to mention that someone at an archaeological department sent this to me. That's scary... But sort of funny too.
  17. Haha, no, it was actually an administrator where I work who sent it to everyone at the department I didn't even notice the url before I posted it here.
  18. I don't know if we are talking about the same list, but the one I found had a dinosaur find at the nr.1 spot... Hello archaeology.... :unsure:/> Edit: Ling to Mel's list: Here And the list I got sent to me from a not so professional site.
  19. It is also important to remember that we have very few "names" of individual streets and alleys preserved and the ones we have (as far as I know) are all unofficial and describing in character (e.g. the street of the money lenders). It would therefore seems as if street names were flowing and could change in a much more fluid manner than today. You can find some unofficial names in the works of Cicero (I'm pretty sure there is one in Ad Cat. I).
  20. Gotta love how The God from the Sea (Poseidon/Zeus) is in every picture from Carthage...
