  1. Iulius

    Alexander The Movie

i liked it. it went off the beaten path. the old stories get well... old after a while. i like how he was brave and tried something new. also i liked the battles scenes.

  3. I am looking forward to watching this. i think it will go well. or i hope so at least
  4. I also agree that sertorius was great. I like the spain wars alot.
  5. thank y'll for your thoughts. i am surpirsed by all th atheists
  6. If hanibal was really so great would he have gotten involved in a war that he had no chance of winning? Threatening his life, family, and people in the process of his blunder?
  7. If during Caesar's Rein as Dictator then the romans would win.
  8. Caesar was the greatest roman general. He did it all. Fought naval battles, land battles, sieges, politcal duels, and still manges to find time to think up reforms that would make rome a longer lasting world power. Caeasr was a master tactition as well as strategist. Alesia is a great example. Circumventalating (spelling big time!) well surrounding the Gauls castle thing and holding off another arny that out numbers you. The other is Pharsalus, not the best battle ever but signifigant display of Caesar's milatary brilliance. I could go on but i have ot gon in five minutes and i want to give Sulla his due. Sulla i believe comes right after caesar. sorry g2g.
  9. Caesar was the best General because he was great at everythign else. Caesar (unlike hannibal) was a master at siege. Alesia is a great example. Caesar was responsble for the Victory of the romans in Gaul, britannia (a stretch but i believe it), aremnia, egypt, north africa, and a small part of spain. He conquered more land than hannibal. Caeasr also inspired his men. he fought on the field next to them, dug next to htem, and ate what they ate. He was also a more powerful person. He had an overwhelming personality, great at everything he ever did exept stay faithful to his wife. While maneuvering on the battlefields he fought in the political arena as well. Many of the troops Hannibal faced were also new recruits. I doubt Rome had 750,000 veterans. But stil it is a lot. Hannibal should have realized the 50000 agaisnt 750000 was not very promising. I might agree that haniba was betterthan caesar if hannibla had won. Winning is what adds great the the term "great general".
  10. no no... not replace a language just started. If people jsut started using it lets say... eh nm. good point...
  11. Collen Mculough has some great books out there as does Lindsey Davis and Wallace Breem. eagles in the snow is one of my favorite books. Those germans just kept on comin'
  12. hey, i have to write a paper about religion for my english class. I can go either way and I was jsut wondering what y'all thought about th topic. Is religion bad for society? Does it make more problems than it can fix? Is it a positive influence in society? What is religion to you? I gotta answer those questions and i thought it would be cool to see what y'all thought. Ave, Iulius
  13. I chose itlay becuasue i like the whole idea of the solider farmer. A man plows his land and when called for duty goes off for a month and fights a neighboring city, then come home and keeps plowing. Sorry if your particular favorite is not on the poll but i could only have 10 poll items.
  14. Do you think that it would be possible for latin to be spoken again as a national language? It would be hard but i believe it would be possible. you would need a lot of dedicated people who would have children and the children would be brought up in a latin speaking enviroment.
  15. I beieve it wouldw work. Modern warfare technology would not matter if it were on the right continent. Like if the netherlands were to convert ot romanism they have no need for missles or tanks. No one will invade them. they haven;t yet.
  16. i was Marcus Aurelius, Paulus, and Augustus. Nice little quiz.
  17. well... if you look into the university of Dallas they will offer students (from my scool at least) a $42,000 scholarship if you study latine, or greek. Also you get to spend a year in Rome and other parts of italy studing latin and the romans i beleive.
  18. Colleen McCullough's books The First Man in Rome, The Grass Crown, Fortunes Favorite, The Women of Caesar, Caesar, and the October Horse are some of the most intriging and detailed roman books i have found. She has imensly developed charaters and a deep knowledge of the roman as a people. I suggest everyone at least read first man in rome.(sorry for spelling) Ave, Iulius
  19. yea... nota big fan "o" da communists but i wthink it would be intresting if some one had rome;s old republican government.
  20. Well... I really love the latin language (classical latin actually) and ancient history (mostly roman) and i want a job that i can use either one in. Does any body know of any professions that are good?
