  1. Oh Ok what about my other questions? Sorry about posting on wrong forum.
  2. I have just finished reading Roger Crowleys Constantinople The last siege 1453. Later on in the book the author talked about Mehmet II plans to conquer the other Ancient Roman capital (Rome). From what I have read they got as far as the port of Otranto (unsure if it is correct spelling). The Pope held a council discussing as to whether he should abandon Rome for his own safety!! However Mehmet II died and the Ottoman troops were pulled out of Italy. I know this is a BIG IF. If Mehmet II and his successors had decided to stay/reinforce the lands the held in Italy. Italy may not have been able to make a unified resistance against the Ottomans (With the City States and all that). How do you think Christendom would have reacted had Rome been conquered by Mehmet II? Would they have united under one banner to safe Rome or would they remain separated and eventually get swallowed up? Also how do you think Christianity would have coped had two major religious center had fallen to the Ottomans. Do you think it would have survived? Here is a little background on the Author: Roger Crowley lived in Istanbul for quite a few years. Constantinople the last siege 1453 is his first book a really good one I might add. Well worth consideration for your booklist !! I look forward ot hearing other people opinions? Sorry I am not sure if I posted this in the right place or not?
  3. Rameses the Great .No I belive that was the Goddess Roma who was Patron Godess who defended the city of Rome. However in early times Romans saw Roma and Minerva as one entity. It was not till later on did the become separte. Minerva as Goddess of Crafts and Art/Wisdom as Ursus said and Roma as Goddess of the City itself. Check out connection below for more info. go here to find out more http://www.calgarycoin.com/reference/myth/myroma.htm
  4. Julieboy I believe it was probably the other way around Crete. (Minoan) civilization was flourishing a good while before Mycenaean Greece took of so to speak. The people slowly moved from Crete across the cyclades (small islands) island hoping and then finally arrived and settled on the Peloponnesian penisula. So it is more likely that the Greeks were descendents of The Minoans of Crete.
  5. I think columba is the name of the Irish travelling monk you were looking for docoflove1974!!
  6. My favourite God would have to be Neptune having power and control over something as bautiful as the oceans and seas is amazing!!!
  7. i would find it interesting to find out more about the Sumerians. I heard that their language is totally unique with no connections to ant ancient or modern day languages!!
  8. Now you're heading in the right direction. You might as well start first with the ancients to get a feeling for how the Boudica events were reported then... Thanks very much i will read those as soon a possible!!!
  9. Yeah I know but I read some stuff at the end of the book were she got her base for the novel I might try reading some of those.
  10. She keeps on telling everyone God is punishing us. However we are taught where I go to church that God Loves all of us regardless of our faults we may have. Also he is forgiving and just not a maniac who has thing like nine eleven aucastrated. Why did the even let her on TV!!! She is crazy!!!
  11. The author does not say where she gets her facts reom however does metion the people who helped her write the book Dr. Gilly Carr,Dr. Jon Coe do not know if the mean anything to anyone but there the only things I could find. The book is just called Boudica. I will try and find out more.
  12. Interesting artical. who would have thought Paris would have had a population of 12,000-20,000 in as far back as Roman times. How far is that from the Eiffel tower as I am staying in Paris at the moment?!!
  13. I have been reading a book about Boudica and her people the (Eceni). According to what the author has written this tribe preferred Women as leaders to men. The Eceni were not unique in this either in Ancient Briton. They had many female warriors as well as males! So it was not unheard of for women to lead hordes of warriors on the fields of Ancient Briton. I have found the book I got the information from fascinating so far!! I know a bit of topic but I only wrote this to prove the point that the Byzantines were not unique in having powerful female rulers. Another Example would be Egypt With Regent Nefertiti and Queen Hatshepsut and of course Cleopatra
  14. Yep I have also heard of this before interesting how the human brain works huh
  15. I think I have that game as well. Patricians III Rise of Hanse :D

  17. did they specify what stage in his life he played the sport. Only because when he was older he got a tad over weight. I cannot really picture him running around a football pitch
  18. My choice was Constantinople. I have read many books about it and I have friends who live in modern day Istanbul. From what I have read It must have been far superior to places such as Venice. Although by the 1400 i would say it must have been a faiding charm as it has with stood many sieges at this point.
  19. If what is said is true an Dacia was full of gold. Should the Romans not have tried to hold onto it to extract resources to cover the cost of the expensive wars they were fighting. They could have used the gold to train more legionaries and have new defenses built and stuff?
  20. There must have been some form of resources in Dacia or Trajan would not have made the effort to conquer the region. Slaves perhaps?
