  1. I must admit, most of my days at work are spent working outside and when ever it's cold and miserable when lets face it is quite often, all we say is "can't wait till it's warm......bring on the sunshine" but after yesterdays stifling heat, all we were praying for was a bit of cloud cover, " wish that sun would piss off, it's too warm for work!!"

I suppose we're never happy are we? It didn't help though that right opposite where we were working was quite possibly the most inviting beer garden I've ever seen, which just got fuller and fuller as the day went on!!

  2. Indeed it does help the fitness, there's nothing better than a good cardio work out, not only do you feel better in body but also in mind as well. I take my hat of to you Caldrail, I'm quite an outdoor person myself and I just despise the kind of people who would much prefer to sit at home on their arses watching Jeremy Kyle or some shit like that rather than getting out for a bit of fresh air and exercise.

  3. Caldrail, I'm intrigued to know what it is that you carry in this heavy rucksack of yours??

Surely a flask and a couple of sarnies should suffice for your yomps into the Rushey Platt wilderness shouldn't it??

Or are you like the escaped convict who used his SAS survival guide, do you carry machetes in case you get tangled in some thick undergrowth, traps in case you get lost and have to hunt for your food, compasses, maps, sat phones, bear traps.......... Am I on the right lines here?? :D:D

  4. That's a nice memory of the Lord of Brookfordshiresexingham, thanks Pan.

I'd become pretty friendly with Tom, he was always up for a laugh and was a very witty and interesting man, he had great stories to tell about his life. I was still in touch with him when his health deteriorated but then the emails stopped and I got no response from the one's I sent him. It was a sad day for me when the news of his passing was announced, although I'd never actually met Tom I did consider him a good friend. I sent a message of condolence to his family and privately mourned his passing.

Although a year has passed I'll gladly join you saying goodbye to the Pater Arcanae :D

  5. You have my utter condolences, commiserations, sympathies etc. This morning every part of my feeling sorry for someone is directed to you Caldrail. I had a similar disaster earlier on in the year when my beloved computer decided to pack it's bag and head to the little hard drive in the sky!

It's a totally shit time, it doesn't matter how much you back up or copy there's always going to be something lost, not to mention the hassle and expense of getting your self back up and running.

Great poem BTW. I love Kipling.

  6. Mmmm! Charcoal grilling can't be beat! Did you catch those fish yourself, Viggen? Do you guys over in Austria ever roast corn on the cob?

    -- Nephele

Corn on the cob done on the BBQ is quality, we always have it, a bit of butter and a light sprinkling of salt.....UUUMMMMM!!!

  7. Funny you should say that Caldrail because I depart for sunny Spain on Tuesday for two weeks of all inclusive sun, sea, sand and sangria. While it may not be your cup of tea and if I'm perfectly honest it's not at the top of my holiday destinations either but when you've got two young children, and all they want to do is play in the pool or go to the beach or the kids club and make new friends, and don't want to be sat on a plane or in a car for hours on end then Spain is a pretty ideal destination.

We always tend to stay clear of the stereotypical Spain you mentioned with high rise run down hotels and streets full of English bars selling the "full Monty" English breakfast. We're going to an holiday village on the coast which is totally family orientated so there's no lager louts( apart from me :D ) with union jack shorts and British Bulldog tattoo's etc Just swimming pools, water slides, good food, drink and entertainment, just perfect for a two week break in the sun. Plus there's a couple of Roman watch towers spread out along the coast with in walking distance of our resort so at least I might get a little bit of culture during my stay.

  8. That's a great song Doc, and BTW the song is called "Panic" I like it because Leeds (where I live) gets a good few mentions. :clapping:

This song is actually about Margaret Thatcher's Tory britain. The DJ is the the Prime Minister (Thatcher) and the disco is the (political) Party, the Tory( Conservative) Party.

The Smiths were a great band it was just a shame they split up so soon. Have you heard any of Morrissey's new stuff? Personally I'm not that keen on it.

  9. "Heck, I still believed I could be a rock star back then. That's how optimistic we were. Of course we didn't have Simon Cowell to puncture our dreams back then. I therefore deduce that Mr Cowell is single-handedly responsible for destroying music as we know it. He is the anti-christ (Sorry Ozzy, love the music, but you're only the Prince of Medium Greyness)"

Whilst i do agree with your comments on how good the music was, am sorry to disappoint you, but Mr Cowel was very much a part of the music scene even then. He may have had a shared office up twisting back stairs at the end of old bond street, but, he had just stopped going out with Sinitta and produced 'so macho', she ran off with David Essex as she was doing a musical with him and he (simon) ran off with my flat mate, a nice leggy model called Lisa. His tastes have never changed, he goes for the same type of women and i have to say his personality has never changed. Simon was the same in the 80's pushing his career and record label.

I always found him charming and honest, so, i see no difference in him now. Yes he can be a wee bit too honest, but seriously, he has always been the same way, its not an act. Yes he does have an inflated ego, but he is nice with it too. I promise you he was just the same and just as involved in many of the 80's hits am afraid as he is today. :) So, you'll have to find someone else to blame for the brutal sounds on the radio today lol.

    with love, suz

Did he still used to wears his pants under his armpits back in the 80's too? :clapping:
