  1. In a battle of Comanche Native Americans VS Indo-European Cro-Magnon....

I browse some historical forums from time to time and find similar threads everywhere at that this themes are the subject of wide speculation and have the greatest namber of posts.

If Caesar entered the Tour de France he would've lost. Simply speaking, Caesar never learned how to ride a bike.

I think he had many abilities. Why he couldn't ride a bike too? :) It is not so hard for really smart and richly endowed nature.

  2. The colors are a little off though. All the blue text in sigs is now dark brown...and there's really nothing white on the entire board.

Strange! I see very good contrast of colours now. And sigs look very good! Blue is blue and white is very white. Maybe it is your PC settings? Try to change they a little. I remember that set straight the colours when bought new PC.

  3. Aelius Longinus, Prefect of Cavalry Ala II Asturum in northern Britannia during late 2nd century AD. What do we know of this man, his personality and mind, his weaknesses and strengths?

As I understand it needs you for RV. I found and saw only one mention in internet. I think you saw it too. ;)

But I have some information from other resource. I saw few archaelogical finds from Lerida (Catalonia, Spain). One of them was a silver medallion with engravings "L. Aelius Longinus" on one side and image of horse's head on other side. The medallion was dated end2-beg3 AD. Condition of it was not so good and process of date was hard as I know. This was strange thing because had a little hole and most likely hanged upon Aelius's neck very long time ago. Looks like a modern badge from soldiery.

I may surmise only that Longinus was from Spain (probably he has a land near modern Lerida) and returned to home safely from Britain. I may surmise also he wasn't so reach because his medallion was made from silver and not gold. This is take place of course if Prefect of Cavalry and medallion's owner were same person.

Well I don't know how it may help you... :P

  4. I'm not expert of course but I like Roman history (republic Rome), Egypt and Greece. Hard to say which epoch I like more then other. I find all subjects interesting for me now. As I take part in archaeological digs this theme is interesting for me too.

  5. Battle of Munda

    Something about Mommsen

"Some historians have chosen this perspective, and the most eloquent of these historians was the German Theodor Mommsen (1817-1903), in his Roemische Geschichte.

Mommsen was one of the founders of the liberal Deutsche Fortschrittspartei (German Progressive Party) and cultivated a bottomless hatred for the conservative Prussian nobility, and his view of the fall of the Roman Republic was coloured by his deep-rooted disillusionment with German liberal politics. The populares were, in Mommsen's view, a political party like his own people's party; as a corollary, the optimates represented the Roman conservatives, who showed a remarkable resemblance to the Prussian nobles. Caesar was, for Mommsen, the incarnation of the "heroic legislator" (an idea of the French political philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau): Caesar had swept away the pieces of a corrupt nobility and had created an empire that served the needs of its inhabitants. In its constitution monarchy and democracy were balanced - something Mommsen would have appreciated in his own country."

I read Mommsen. He repeated all ancient historians but had his own horseback opinion.

  6. Interesting really though....

As far as is known there is a long chain how merchandises were delivered to Rome from other countries like India or East coast of Africa. But Romans didn't go on travels themself. Oh, yes Rome's market was flooded by exotic goods but they outbided from merchants from the Middle East or Egypt. They outtbrided the goods from other merchants in theirs turn.

  7. I dont understand why this lady was so frightened at the very thought about "free perfume". There was one good way to make clear this question. Take perfume and give to experts to check it. But she prefers to spread panic among other women. How it is stupid though.

  8. Hard to ask to any questions but... ;)

    My scored as Trajan

You are quite fortunate to rank as the emperor Trajan, possibly the greatest of Roman emperors. You have relentlessly expanded the empire and even humbled the mighty Parthian empire. Loved by all, vastly larger than life, you are the model for all future emperors. It is hard to find a bad thing to say about you. HAIL CAESAR!

    Trajan 86%

    Vespasian 75%

    Marcus Aurelius 75%

    Nerva 71%

    Antoninus Pius 71%

    Claudius 71%

    Hadrian 61%

    Domitian 57%

    Augustus 54%

    Tiberius 54%

    Commodus 54%

    Caligula 39%

    Nero 32%

  9. He is referred to as a Hellenistic king, but, again, I have read references that he was of partial Persian descent.

It is true. What references you read?

Of course Mothridates had Hellenistic ruts but he had Asia despot's nature.

Maybe you mean anything else? Would like to read the references. :)

  10. My rouge translation is:

The person who is alone oneself will alone with others.

But I agree with PM. It is not exact phrase.

Lol, Silentium! I tried to translate it on Russian than on English.

    And I remembered one else:

    Post mortem medicina

I think you all understand it without translating. :D

  11. Is there a way you can make it so that after the posts in a forum are read the forum no longer appears white (as containing unread posts)? They seem to be staying white for several hours, even if I refresh the page a biskillion times.

This is strange. I haven't problems like that. I specially drew attention on it even.
