  1. Mate, that is some supremely impressive shit there! Good work. Post ALL of your stuff because it would only be the complete sour arse (CATO!) who would carp or criticise. Jeezuz your talent makes me feel small.....!
  2. WOW! The nose, dude....that shit is uncanny!
  3. Cool pix mate... I see you throwing up the horns in a couple of photos there, or is that a friend? Are you guys into METAL?
  4. All it takes is one random Crow/Raven sitting on a fence IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE and the whole freakin' worlds about to end...STOOPID HOOMUNS!
  5. They really should be researching the vampire menace, clearly a more sophisticated threat. refer them to all of Neph's literature if they need proof!
  6. http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/200908...trolledbyfungus Just like the female of the human species....
  7. The Warriors have come third to last in the NRL..... the ALL BLACKS are probably going to bomb out of the Tri Nations, South Africa (THE ENEMY!) to win.... Serena Williams arse is driving me to distraction, but I know she's married to Common who could probably kick my arse in fifteen different languages... I'll lie and say life is freaking FANTASTIC!
  8. Cheers all... to be honest, it was the Gemell book that got me curious. Nice spotting that man/woman/otherwise! (just taking the piss GPM!)
  9. Brother, when all was said and done, turns out I was lucky to get an invite! GO THE RHINO'S/LEEDS FC!
  10. Congrats, brother; you the MAN! And, happy birthday mate.
  11. RESIST THE URGE TO EDIT, DUDE! Next, you'll be Twittering!
  12. I honestly meant to have a quiet birthday this year. No; honestly I did. I was going to hide away from my alcoholic mates and read a fuckin' book. But it didn't turn out that way. It is impossible to stand in the way of friends whose mission it has become to drink you under three of four tables. We'll just get one bottle, they said. Just the one. And maybe a box of beers. Or two. We might as well get some Vodka, too.... Six bottles of Bourbon, one bottle of Stoli, three boxes of beer, nine cigars, three packets of ciggies and various other substances were consumed by me and my four very determined beer buddies in the space of two days. That's just the stuff I counted whilst still able to count! And, of course, drunk logic dictates that the best hangover cure is a hair of the dog that bit you. My birthday was on a Saturday. It is now Thursday, and the party shows no sign of abaiting. The dog that bit us must have a bloody big bald patch now! This year's birthday has taken a couple of years off my life; I shit you not! The moral to this sorry tale? If you find one, let me know.... cornelius_sulla
  13. That's fascinating. I wonder if it was indoor or outdoor?
  14. There isn't a whole lot of information on this obscure Macedonian or his actual heritage. I could read a whole heap of books, or just cut to the chase and use the internet. All contributions welcome.
  15. Thanks for the birthday wishes. The party started Saturday; it's Thursday now, and we're still going! And happy birthday to you, Wotwotius!
  16. I have not been to the site for a long time, but I noticed that one of our most eminent contributors, Cato, is not as prominent as he once was. This is a shame, because I always really enjoyed the terse one's writings. Is he OK and still active? Or has life just intervened on him, like it has on me? It would be a shame not to be able to tap his brain and thereby skip reading the whole Loeb Classical Library!
  17. The cognomen Sulla; what does it mean and what are it's origins if anyone knows. This question may have been asked already, so forgive my laziness in not checking if it has (my computer's a dog!)
  18. Hey dude or dudette - I had the same idea, and I named my band after my favourite Roman - Caius (three guesses which Caius). Maybe that'll help. I'm in a metal band now, and that one we've named Sulla - I tend to get my way with names! I toyed with Agelastus - it's a no no to smile in metal, so Agelastus (never smiles) was a candidate. I reckon that the nicknames that romans had for each other are good for band names. You're right to ask Neph. She's the naming oracle!
  19. I might as well get this over and done with: RAH RAH NEPH! I'm a cheerleader!
  20. Mean thread, sis. Information that I've always wanted to know. Cheers for the heads up, too! NEPH IS THE BOMB!
  21. Scullard, Goldsworthy, and our distinguished member Maty. Of the ancients, Tacitus. There are people on this site who may or may not be published historians, but what they write here is more often than not excellent to someone like me. Cato, Nephele, Primus Pilus, Ursus, the list goes on for yards and you get to watch them debate topics as well. Better than wrestling.
  22. Just finished reading Animal Farm and Keep The Apidistra Flying by Orwell again. Sobering stuff. Some animals are more equal than others....
  23. Mate, good post. Money and things, although important, are NOT all they are cracked up to be. Family and friends and their love for you are your only true reflection of your worth on the planet. When you go, they are your immortality. Money doesn't matter snot, really. And if it does, then those you leave behind to argue about the will are focusing on entirely the wrong thing. I will leave memories behind me of a good man who did his best to make sure his family was all good. I will never be forgotten and not because I left behind riches, but because I bought my kids up to be good people who know how to love before they know how to spend. Don't mind me, people. I'm drunk. 2008 was a good year, all the better for being a bloody hard one. I look forward to 2009 and wish a fantastic new year to all. OPTIMISM. Always. GO THE KIWIS!
