Saw a little bit of this movie on TV last night - while watching the scene during the opening credits with the two guys in the chariot racing across the terrain, all I could say is YIKES! how did they keep from falling out of that thing! Eh - it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. When I saw the bit about King Tut begin, I thought "Again!?" Why do we have to hear this story in every documentary about Egypt? At least they didn't dwell very long on it. And of course Zahwi Hawass had to show up, entering the Great Pyramid. It was quite interesting though about finding the unknown pyramids.

I finally finished Steven Saylor's "Roman Blood", first in his mystery series with Gordianus as his main character. I borrowed it from the library and had to renew in order to have time to finish it, which I rarely if ever have done in the past with a book. Perhaps I was just burned out on mysteries after reading all 21 books in the Marcus Didius Falco series, but I struggled through "Roman Blood". I did like the characters, and the story was ok; but I decided not to continue with the other books in the series - at least not for now. Instead, I reserved Robert Harris's "Imperium" from the library and hope to begin that in a couple weeks.

Wikipedia says 13 episodes total. I've watched quite a few so I'm pretty sure I'm on season two already. And I mispelled the latin, should have been "Odi Et Amo?" not "Aimo". By the way, it was a pretty funny episode. Yes, I have a DVD player that plays USA and region two DVDs, bought it special because I became hooked on the "Victorian Farm" BBC series and had to buy that and the entire other "Farm" series of DVDs. Great last episode! That was fun, esp. when there was nothing good on TV. Thanks for bringing the series to my attention.

I've watched many episodes on Utube and so far have had no problems one after another. Only, I'm suddenly confused that I may not be watching them in order. Aulus's character now has blonde hair and there are new opening credits - so I'm not sure if I'm still in Season One or not. It's the same actor, no? I'm ready to watch "Odi Et Aimo" Part 1. I agree, the DVDs would be a much better quality of picture too altho the Utube's aren't bad.

After reading these posts, I did a search for the series on Utube. Finally found all 40 episodes at one web site and so far have watched the first part of Episode One, Season One. This was a great show! I should write our PBS station and beg them to buy it.

Thanks. I never thought about them possibly being wooden structures, afterall it WAS a long time ago. I guess I'm just fascinated by finds like this. You're absolutely right about vegetation taking over sites. I found the stone floor of a trellis structure I built years ago and had collapsed. I spent half a day removing layers of grass and dirt. In order to keep it uncovered, I have to be diligent.

I know this is probably a really dumb question but...why is it "underground"? What happens to ruins of this magnitude that cause them to disappear under the earth? Were they demolished, used as a quarry for building materials and then filled in with earth?

I will check my library for these. According to a site online, there are 7 books in the series?

Finished the book yesterday and enjoyed it very much.

Melvadius, someone posted a link here at UNRV to a website of Pompeii that actually took you up and down the streets of Pompeii and listed each house/building (as they look in present time) sometimes with interesting facts noted. It was fantastic, I had it bookmarked for a long time. I don't think it was at the link you posted. Does anyone else remember the website I'm talking about?

I found the book at the library, I'll be starting it tonight.
