  1. OK - Finished. I didn't post individual comments about the last four books, because there were no big surprises. The quality of the Falco books has been ramping up throughout the series, and these four: See Delphi and Die, Saturnalia, Alexandria and Nemesis, didn't buck the trend at all. Fluent writing, good characterisation, exciting plot, and the final book ending strongly, certainly not abruptly as if the author just stopped bringing new books out.

The next thing a Falcophile will be anitcipating is Ides of April, (to be published 11 April 2013 in the UK and June 2013 in the USA), first of a new series centred on Falco's adopted daughter Flavia Albia.

I await it with eager anticipation!

    Me too.

Nemesis had a pretty exciting ending did it not? "Falcophile" - I like that.

  2. 2000BC: Here, eat this root

1000AD: That root is heathen! Here, say this prayer.

1865AD: That prayer is superstition! Here, drink this potion.

1935AD: That potion is snake oil! Here, swallow this pill.

1975AD: That pill is ineffective! Here, take this antibiotic.

2000AD: That antibiotic is poison! Here, eat this root.

For those of you not able to receive UK TV stations like Channel 4 on your TVs, try www.tvcatchup.com. I'd be interested to know if you're able gain access. I've used the iPhone App abroad, but it may know that I'm a UK resident/TV Licence Fee payer.

I bookmarked that site, Ghost, will see if I can watch the programming. Hope so!

Nope. Not available for my country. :(

  5. As promised. Photos from the play tonight. For high school kids, they did an amazing job with dialog and songs. However I had a completely different image of what Pseudolus should look like! (he's the one in the purple striped pants) :D No chariot chase, just an awful lot of running around the stage and through the theater aisles. Most disappointing was the fact that the audience turn out was very small, being a Sunday matin

  6. Don't be too surte I vivdly remember being involved in a school production years back that managed to get the 'impression' of a moving wagon over on stage - you just have to suspend a lot of disbelief;)

:D :D :D And just how were you "involved"? pray tell - which character did you portray or perhaps you had the interesting job of set design? cool.

  7. A local high school is presenting "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To the Forum" as their musical this year. This school has an excellent drama club and always provides great entertainment for being only high school students. A friend of mine is in charge of the choreography. Anyhow, buying tickets for this Sunday's matinee. Too bad the chariot chase scene from the movie can't be done on a high school stage. Cracks me up.

  8. With Flavia Albia being British born (as stated on Lindsey Davis' wiki page), I suspect I haven't come across her yet. Presumably she appears in A Body in the Bath House, or The Jupiter Myth. At least I'll be able to get in on this one at the ground floor.

Oh sorry, didn't mean to post spoilers. I can't recall in which book she makes her appearance but I do have a source reference - "Falco - The Official Companion" which is the only book I actually did purchase. I will sneak a peek.

  9. Hi Crispina. I read the first and second, but am yet to read the third. I'll echo what has been said so far. Well read, and quite exciting. Well researched. Good characters. I very much enjoyed reading them, though I didn't rush out for the third book. I won't bore you with a full review, but some of the gory scenes are very gory, and as a lady of delicate constitution, you may be advised to skip ahead once things start getting too 'wet'.

Ugh. Ok, thanks. I may give the books a try.

  10. Oh wow. I thought Lindsey Davis said she would not write another Falco novel - ever. And a whole new series? Can't wait. But now I must review Flavia Albia's story! Was she the girl found on the streets by Marcus? she was born in Britain? I wish now that I would have purchased the entire Didius Falco book series, instead I found them all at the library which was a good thing; but having them all in my own library would be great. Perhaps I will begin by buying one or two a month.

Thanks for the heads up Ghost.
