  1. Salve Citizens, I must ask for assistance from the masses here at UNRV. Beforehand, I searched the archives for any relevant topics, but found nothing. My apologies to the staff if I missed a prior discussion. Forgive me. I am extremely interested in the men who claimed to be the Emperor Nero after his death. Terentius Maximus is one such claimant that I know of. Coupled with this, I read that St. Augustine even spoke of how many believed that Nero would return in his day. I find this fascinating that one man could have so many pretenders. What is the source of prophecy surrounding his return? If any? I ask for any source material, insight, anything at all that will help me to begin research on this topic. sincerely, G. Julius Camillus
  2. I am behind in the congratulations! Happy B-day!
  3. Have there been any researchers who do not believe this is the real Ara pacis? And if so, what are there reasons? Thanks in advance guys. GJC
  4. Eatsyc nna Tsneo This is for a female my lady. Thanks in advance.
  5. Liono or Panthro. No seriously, probably I would choose something like Hostilius or Victorinus.
  6. Just finished Under the Eagle by Scarrow. I do enjoy Macro and Cato! But I do agree that Eagle in the Snow is absolutely fascinating. I never tire of reading it. In fact I am going to find it today and get it.
  7. I have little to contribute to this conversation except to say that Mr. Thayer and I share a birthday!
  8. Ok, every once in a while I come from the shadows to make a post, and today is that day. (For those who forgot, I started the 'Was Jesus Caesar' threads.) As I have looked deeper into monotheism in Rome, I came across this passage, which I am embarassed to say is from wikipedia. This is, give or take, 15 or so Emperors before Constantine. My question is, were there any more instances of trying to introduce a single God after Aurelian, and was Rome inevitably on the path to a Monotheistic religion, whether that be Mithraism or Christianity. Thanks for your time as always guys. GJC
  9. Well spoken M. Silanus. I may amend my own vote after your post and a bit if research.
  10. If 100 degree heat, and tornado's are your thing then yes! All kidding aside, to be honest, now is a good time of the year to come. The really hot days of summer are pretty much over thankfully.
  11. My story is a bit odd, but it chronicles my movement from roman catholic to pagan, and lover of Rome. I was in confession, with a father, and I told him I had lied to my parents. I was maybe 11 at best. He told me in no uncertain terms that I was going to burn in hell. Now with hindsight, I know he was trying to frighten the hell out of me, but I was not like most children. I told him that he was not God. He could not know such things. He said he was a part of the Roman Catholic religion, the one and only true world religion the world has ever known. And that if I continued to be disrepectful, my soul was in danger. I stood up and left, never going to church again, vowing to look into his claim about the church's history. Well the road led to Rome.
  12. Just finished The Last Ember by Daniel Levin. A fun read about the fate of the jewish menorah and Titus' mistake.
  13. Pertaining to the 86 BC decree of the Senate
  14. My lady, as always your thoroughness and knowledge is astounding. Thank you for your time. GJC
  15. I named my son Caedicius Antonius Matson legally, and I know of the legend surrounding the first name, but what does Caedicius and Antonius actually translate to? Nephele, I could use your help here. GJC
  16. Guys, I need high quality images (if there are any) of the various images, inparticular, the east and west walls with the Lupercal and the female Bellatrix which is incomplete. As well any information on it that is a bit better than wikipedia. The other panels and walls are of interest as well, but the above two mostly. And a quick query. What type of sacrifices were performed on the altar? thanks guys, GJC
  17. Roman, in the context of my question, is an individual from the city itself, or a member of their Latin allies from Italy. And by the way, thanks to all who have replied. Your answers have been most helpful.
  18. Greetings all, I am gathering some initial data for a research project at my university. I need sources, or a push in the right direction by some of the intelligentsia around UNRV. I am anxious to know if anyone (scholar or historian) has ever looked more in depth at the physical makeup of the Roman army. What was the percentage of ethnic roman/italians to the Foederati or barbarian allies? Were there more Romans during the late Republic and Principate, as opposed to the Dominate? Any assistance would be of great help. sincerely, GJC
  19. Thanks guys, your input has been very helpful.
  20. Ironically, last night, the history channel had yet another show on the coming mayan prophecy of 2012. They actually mentioned this "Cumean Sybil" who wrote the sybilline prophecies, even giving her credit for predicting the birth of christ. Now my question is are they trying to say this is the same oracle who gave the books to Tarquin? this is very confusing. lol. GJC
  21. Hello guys, My wife and I are preparing for a move to Rome sometime within the next 6-9 months. We are looking at the various archaelogical digs, but one does get wary and wonder if they are legit. You just never know these days, and I am hesitant to send money so easily for tuition or living expenses. So I figured I would ask the people, since surely some of you are from Italy or Rome herself. Any suggestions about various digs, schools in Rome for Archaelogy, and the best way to search for living accomodations would be welcome. Any information that you can give me would be most appreciated. sincerely, GJC
  22. I always wanted to be a part of the Gens Julia, and the name Gaius Julius Camillus sounds very dignified and noble. I actually borrowed the Camillus part because of the Lindsey Davis Marcus Didius Falco series. I liked the character Quintus Justinus Camillus. On a side note, my son was named officially Caedicius Antonius and born on what is Caesar's birth date.
