Well, I have it on excellent authority that this motif is actually not the head of Zeus but the head of Blue Hair Poseidon himself whose head is wreathed in kelp. Imagine my delight to learn that this beautiful artwork is of my divine benefactor.
Anyway, sorry I didn't see your comment for so long LW! To answer your questions: a) I have know idea the symbolic reason for the bow being held that way and no these are not my coins

In regards to my 2007 blog entry 'Poseidonogenes', it was on this landing that I poured out the second bottle of Sanatogen Tonic Wine in libation

This year we stayed in the lower tower room which is in this picture.
If you have read my blog entry 'Poseidonogenes', picture the waves sending spray as far as the lower tower windows and definitely over the spot where this picture was taken to give you an idea how rough the seas were!
The balcony 'pulpit' I spoke of can be seen in this picture. Look down from the small window in the upper tower and it was there that I poured out the libation to Poseidon...

I finally ordered one for myself yesterday! Hopefully it will look good in reality!

Now that I have met the esteemed Don Tomasso I can assure you that it is the tall guy... But much taller in real life though.
Like Paul freakin Bunyan that guy is!!! & he was wearing a Hogarth of Firhill kilt when we met to boot!

As far as I understand, the shekels & such from those days were just certain measurements of a given metal that was dictated to equal a given measure of some other good.
i.e. 1 shekel (8.333 gr) = 40 chickpeas

I love that picture...

I can't believe that no Belgian Triple made a mention as being a good match with cheese (any) :frusty:

Of course not... At first I got stares from my girlfriend like "who cares?" (I though to myself, 'you would if I put it in your Nalgene' )Excellent, did none of your companions recognise the plant at all?
Also did you see any Yarrow as a lower ground cover in the vicinity (can be white or quite pink)?I only located one small Yarrow plant. The Queen Anne's Lace however was EVERYWHERE!

While hiking along the Swannanoa River this weekend, I dutifully pointed out to my fellows a nice specimen of hemlock growing along the banks.
Luckily there was some Queen Anne's Lace right nearby so I could point out the differences in leaf design and flowering crowns.

I heard that dentistry started in Egypt.
I bet you did...
There is even evidence from the Neolithic of basic dental proceedures being performed. (outside of Egypt)

lol, my fault. Say did you change my preferred name with my actual name?
Actually no, but I have seen odd things happen in the Gallery. I think it's the ghost in that picture of Lacertus'

handwriting.
LW you probably got confused because it's calligraphy

LW, I do believe the pottery artist meant for it to be comical. I hope so cause I'm with you, I think it's hilarious! A wing and a little muscle arm!
Pertinax, I know the Phoenicians held the owl in the same regard as to wisdom. I'll look into it. However, are you sure your not placing your biased on all owls because of the snake owl?

I know you said tribal design, is it a Pheonix of sorts?
I dig it

Seems this beauty is a bit viral... I see that Livius.org has appropriated the obverse portion (Tanit) for diplay on their main Carthage page. ^_^
