  1. Your right, I was running on automatic there.
  2. LW, that is incorrect, in ancient latin (which is what I gave) an s makes the -ss sound, not a -z sound. Like the S in snake.
  3. Some will correct me if I'm wrong on these but aedile= eye-dial (as in sundial) mos maiorum= mos (as in mosque) may (as in mayor) or (as in orbit) um Odovacer= Odo-wa-ker (the -er sound in -ker is pronoucend like air) Stilicho= Sstee (make the long -ss sound, not a -z sound) lee-cho Cassivalaunus= Kassee-wal-aun(as in aunt)-us I'm sure people with more skill will come back and correct me, I'm not good at doing word pronounciation on paper...
  4. Excuse me, might I invite cato to this party? Expecialy to respond to that statemet tflex. HA! Anyways, I'd probley fall undergroups 2 and 3.
  5. To make a general comment about the data from the poll, personaly, I'm surprised at the 0% of the combined Judaism and Islam, I was realitively sure that we had at least a jew or two, maybe even a Muslim... Though not shockingly, christianity was the majority, with atheism following close behind, and then the polytheistics. Personaly, I could never get into Polytheism, though it makes more sense than Monotheism (at least to me)
  6. I wouldn't mind that much if I was given a naval burial, though seeing as I have yet to join in the service of my country, I can't claim the right to such a burial. And is it just me, or do we have quite a few folks around here that were in a military?
  7. Horrifing? Quite honestly, I expected worse. To me, the over throw of a regime in a couple of months is a realitively successful thing, however, taking over the country is hardly acomplished, in terms of making it safe for a soldier to walk on the street.
  8. "We have chosen not to show these comics tonight on the ethical grounds that we are scared to." -Steven Colbert Yes, these comics seem to have sprung up from such a tiny, and seemingly unimportant newspaper in Denmark. Images such as depicting the prophet Muhammad with a bomb in his turbin have struck off WORLD WIDE muslim anger and now literaly thousands, if not millions, with hateful feelings towards the cheerful northern European country of Denmark. Though the Dutch have tolerance for all of this, and the gov't of Denmark has not chosen to proscute Flemming Rose, editor of the newspaper which published the cartoons, for his actions. Flemmings says that the cartoons of the Prophet were not intended to say that all Muslims, or the prohpet Muhammad are terrorists, but merely to make an assualt on censorship of possibly insulting ideas to Muslims or other organizations. His goal was to make the point of saying that in Denmark, everyone was equal and that just becuase somebody was a Muslim, didn't mean that they had a right to inforce their religious views on the rest of a free nation. He also recognizes and agrees that a small minorty of Islamic extremists have given the followers of the normaly peaceful religion of islam a bad name. ------------------ Personaly, I'm appalled at all the arguements, personaly, I side with Flemmings and agree with him and his statements. In a democracy, we can not allow people to be more important that each other, or otherwise risk underminding the very principles of democracy. I beleive that while it was a fairly stupid and neglectant move to forget how easily, given the current world situation, that a comic like the ones presented could easily be misinterpreted into something rude and/or insulting about the religion of Islam or its founder, Muhammad.
  9. true true viggen, though i said that in realizing I'll never have a picture of her, and therefore will never be able to do so. Ah viggen, you seem to comment her so often, but I shouldn't be posting about my troubles in this area much longer, I beleive this is my last post.
  10. At this point, cremation. Its linked with the sect of Christianity that I was taught (though no longer beleive) and feels the right things to me now, whether I like it or not. Overall, my family can decide in the end.
  11. Why didn't you mention this in the first place? Now I'm convinced that Dacia wasn't backwards! Cato! no, now your not the real cato, the REAL cato wouldn't have been factional, he would've supported Rome, not Pompey, Pompey was not Rome. Sigh cato, am I the only real republican left.
  12. Well Flavius, it has been scientificaly proven that Gayness CAN be naturaly born. It is caused by a chemical inbalance in the brain due to incorrect hormones from the Male and Female. Whether you like it or not, there is XX males and XY females on occasion. Birth defects... As for human cloning, cloning could be incredibly helpful in theory. I personaly wouldn't mind clones for certain things. They pose an economic problem over a ethical problem to me, so personaly I am in agreeance with the church on that Also, I can't say much about abortion. It depends on whether you consider the developing baby/fetus a baby or a fetus. Personaly I consider it a fetus and there for am Pro-choice. However, I find that the church hasn't taken the full stand. If they want to declare Abortion wrong, they should also declare that taking birth control pills is wrong, that using a condom is wrong, and in general fact, the idea of doing anything to prevent birth, they have yet to do so.
  13. Belief in a god without godliness (omnipotence and omniscience)? Why bother? If you don't believe in godliness, what's the point of theism? Agreed Cato, I'd like to ask the same question. Also, I'd ask the mods to make sure that if this starts to get out of hand, to lock the thread, this is really beyond what I meant it to be currently, but don't lock things down yet mods...
  14. That was my plan Flavius my friend, I'll see how things turn out, and I'll be sure to keep this blog up to date, as well as find a picture of the girl and get it on the comp, though its hard for me, I don't have a scanner in my room... so I'd have to do that when my parents weren't here and I'd have to figure out how to get it to my comp and etc... but non the less. For a little info, she is indian, long hair, shorter than me (though most people are) and she seems realitively subservian... the type of student who will do everything asked of them, never forgeting and assignment or not doing the "right" thing, though never a teachers favorite. A person who has little problem allowing other people to talk, all the time, though that may come in handy, it may not. I get the feeling she comes from a lower-middle middle class family by the neighborhood she gets off the bus, I know she is friends with a certain crowd, which gives me the advantage. Though the hardest part will be breaking the ice and trying to get her to talk to me regularly.
  15. No, this couldn't have happened, at least not often. As soem one stated earlier, such a thing would not have been tolorated by the Roman Centurions and comanding officers. It quite simply wasn't going to happen anyways, why would any self respecting soldier choose rather to rape a hardened bloody sweaty disgusting warrior, and not the lovely young virgins of the town. Rape was part of sacking a city, not part of disgracing an enimies manlyhood.
  16. I realize its confusing, its suppose to be that way. And I mean to imply Asian
  17. Well, I thought long and hard, and I've gone through my head many times over what to do, I've fought with myself, with my better instincts, and all my codes of life. I've decided to break my strict regimen for the sake of my mental health and for self indulgence, for I fear I can't hurt myself too much. I've decided that I should persuse my feelings, what ever they be, for the girl at school, and try to at least get her so say a word that I can hear (she is excessively quite) if all goes well, perhaps I'll have a new friend or something more, though I'm of course presuming far too much over how things will go and what will happen, I feel that my moral codes require a brief break every now and then for my sake. Otherwise I think I may end up snapping one fine day and doing something insane, so shortly, I fear for my mental health. Anyways, I'd appreciate if anyone had any say on my decision, or cared to help me in my enveadouvers.
  18. I'll start things off with the first question then, Translate this please: So comes the unexpected, the oriental greek.
  19. Yes yes, they had good architecture and gold working, but look who went out to put it to work to the people, the Romans of course. I think when it comes to a civilizations advanced or backwards classification, we should judge by the sophistication of the average person, the whether the average person is literate (Roman literacy rates were incredible for the time, Dacia, not so much) and the addvanced technology that effects the average persons life (such as roman aquaducts and things like that). So by those terms, I think it is fair to declared Dacia inferior to the Romans. Though then again, I'm incredably bias towards the "barbarian" cultures.
  20. True true true, You are listening... Though I'd care not to start an Online relation ship. Though it is nice
  21. I must confess to my lack of knowledge on the subject at hand, though general knowledge of the time tells me that in terms of seige warfare and its sophistication, the celtics were just about as "primitive" or "advanced" as any other culture in the world (the eurasian world anyways) The only thing majorly different with tactics is A. a lack of extensive stone fortifications of the "barbarian" tribes and entities which consequently lead to trouble sieging citys that used such fortifications, and also a lack of knowledge on how to defend these, considering they didn't have the experiance to develop things such as boiling oil and also the advanced metal plated seige towers of the mediteranian (or in motzart's words, the Merdeteranian) B. A different Fighting style and warrior armorment.
  22. Me Personaly, i'm an Atheist. Hardcore now, I beleive that the only purpose in religion is (like PP said) to explain the unexplainable, however I have faith that everything can be explained by scientific thought, and to follow practices of religion in the meanwhile would simply be a hindrance to furthur advances of science and finding the true answer. Religion in terms of morals and ethics is positive, but I beleive (and practice) firm morals and ethics without beleif in my duty to a higher power, other than rightousness. Though in a sense, atheist is a religion, a religion is simply a belief about how things work, and one can find that atheism in terms of what one who practices it does and how one practices it will vary just as much as a religion. The only thing lacking in atheism is organized groups who come together to speak about the meaning of atheism, which is profoundly useless in my opinion. Therefore in my mind atheism is a religion, a religion without a deity.
