  1. I felt really sorry for Vercintetorgix Was his body saved like that by his people in secret? Zeke
  2. Hello my friends, I havn't been on this site in many days I feel ashamed of myself. But either way I have not noticed this post about my favorite show and want to put my own insight into the HBO show Rome. This is my opinion of the show: Most of the history seems accurate enough and I love the drama they add to the show. I have to agree that the first episode was rather stiff and corney but yes, they were setting the exposition of the story. Everything has been quite intense and very intresting and I love watching the show. The only problem is that their is almost no big battle scene which sucks! My favorite character is Vorenus because I wish to be like him: honroable, proud, cynical and standing up for what I believe in. My second favorite character is his wife Niobe, because Niobe is my ideal woman. She is beautiful and her personality is exacly what I want in my wife. My third favorite character is Mark Anthony because he is just such an as*hole and it somethig about him makes him very entertaining. Well after seeing the newest epsidode: "Triumph" I am in a state of shock. I feel bad for Pullo because the slave that he freed didn't love him and then he goes and smashes the guy's head in and that made me really sad. The other really sad part was when Vercingetorix was getting stranggled by the Romans and then his body was thrown into a dump. Yet I was full of joy when his people came along and rescued his body from such a horrible fate. He was burned like every good king should be. So here is my predictions.....of coarse the final episiode is going to be Caeser getting assassinated and I believe that Vorenus will go with Mark Anthony and Pullo will go with the Brutus/Cicero forces. But then they will be defeated and Pullo will escape and latter join with Octavian to battle Mark Anthony. Vorenus will think that as long as he stays with Mark Anthony that he will save the Republic but he will latter desert Mark Anthony for Octavian in the second season. What does everyone else think.... sorry I havn't posted, and sorry for spelling, Zeke
  3. The simple fact is no ever uses the polls they just write long opinions. Trust me I have tried a couple polls and they go down the drain. The only polls that have been worthwhile are the "What if" senarios. Zeke
  4. Is there anything left of the Campus Martius or ruins to her Temple? I want to visit it some day to pay my respects to her fallen might. Zeke
  5. A funny fact that should be noted is that Caracalla was killed while he was "urinating" on the side of the road. How pathetic, Zeke
  6. There was once a temple of Venus in Jerusalem I doubt it still exists, but you may want to check it out. Zeke
  7. I left out a rat trap to catch the pesky vermain that were eating the Strawberries outside of my house. I left this rat trap for about 2 days and I knew I should have snapped it but I was too lazy. Well this morrning I walked out to find a poor Sparrow caught in a death grip in the rat trap. It was the most heartbreaking site I have ever seen, and by the gods I almost cried, if I hadn't been so lazy such a fate would not have befallen the poor creature. The worst part about it was that it was still alive, so I took it out of the rat trap and put it in my hand and stayed with it until it died two minutes latter from loss of blood. I felt it shudder, and it just looked at me as it slowly went on to the next world. It was horrible, One day when I die I hope to see that same bird land on my shoulder when I pass on to Elyisum. I am glad I was with it as it died, I hope someone is with me. Ever had that kind of expreince?
  8. Most likely I would kept the Capital in Rome, not invaded Britian and tried to pacify Parthia. Parthia was the real threat it could host standing armies unlike German warlords. I would have consentrated most of the Legions on the Western Front. I would have kept Pagan Tradditions alive and I would have restored more power to the Senate so they could pick emperors instead of the army picking emperors for them. Zeke
  9. A wonderful essay on Venus, Venus being one of my favorites, I commend you. Zeke
  10. I would want to be a Celtic man in living in Gaul somewhere around the South Coast are Nobres. I would want to own several farming estates and I would sell the three main commadoties to the cities: Wine, olive oil, grain. I would want to belong to the Esquriean class (Or however you spell it) I would want to have a large family and have a semi powerful position in the province of Gaul. Zeke
  11. Zeke

    Hannibal Movie

Russel Crowe would not be a good actor for a Hannibal movie. THe goods actors would be Clive Owen for Hannibal and Juan Phoneix for Scipio Africanus. Who agrees? Zeke
  12. Well Ossander find other members that share you same time period, lets say your joined in Febuary for example, then you would look for all the people who in joined in Febuary of that year, ussualy those people would make up your "4th Generation" Zeke
  13. Well Said Ursus, I was just adding my own interpretation of it. In the end my beliefs go back to the original Roman Concept of Polythesim, even if they are masked by logic the basis is still there. Do et des-I give so that you may give. That phrase can some up the whole notion of Roman Polythesim immeditatly, the gods must be pleased according to the Romans and if there not your life will just get harder. That can some up almost all ancient polytheisim. Zeke
  14. I think religion is a matter of opinion really, for as I see it everything in science happens because of a higher spirtual power. Example: Lets say there is an Earthquake, ussually Earthquakes happen in one same spot because the plates of the Earth Surface are moving together. Yet WHY do the plates move? Suppsoadly the Earth isn't alive so why would it need to move? Does it just move out of randomness, in my opinion NOTHING, NOTHING at all it moves out of randomness, everything has a deeper meaning in the end. Thats why you always have to asked the word: "WHY" Because after you ask a certain amount of "Whys" you will come to the conlcusion that it can't be explained by our primitive minds but something more. Science is simply showing us how things work, yet WHY do they things work the way they do? Couldn't they have worked a different way? Why couldn't pigs have had wings insteand of birds, Why didn't they evolve in such a way so they could have wings, these pigs. The essence of every question in the end goes back to the gods, every inch of the universe, every sound and light partical and every atom that swirls in a never ending rotation is being watched by the gods. Were not nessarilly controled by the gods, but everything always has a purpose or a deeper meaning, all you got to do is stop and ask yourself. "Why?" ANd you will find a religion very fast when you begin to run out of answers to all the whys you asked. I hope that makes sense. Also to add many things have been made up in order for man to manipulate others, and I don't disagree that most likely Caeser made up lies about himself that he was descended from Venus. But I prefear those lies much more to others ones conducted by other religions. And in the end those lies could be real so you got to ask yourself what your going to have to believe in....... Will you beilieve that Moses died on Mont Sainai at the age of 122? Will you believe that the Budda found a special kind of enlightenment under a tree? Will you believe that a man named Jesus was accually the son of a god? Or will you believe in the divintiy of the Roman Empire whos influences spread far and wide? All a matter of choice. My favorite Why question by the way is "Why does history always repeate itself?" Zeke
  15. You are Augustus! First emperor of the Romans and one of the greatest statesmen in the ancient world. You brilliantly eased the old Republic into the Principate and set the path for an empire that would last for centuries and form the underpinnings for all western civilization. Hail Caesar! Augustus 100% Marcus Aurelius 86% Hadrian 71% Antoninus Pius 71% Nerva 57% Vespasian 57% Tiberius 50% Trajan 50% Claudius 50% Domitian 43% Vitellius 43% Nero 32% Caligula 21% Commodus 18% lol Augustus wow! Zeke
  16. I came on this site on June 1st 2004, that was nearly 2 years ago, and I havn't lost my love of Roman History and still love this site alot, though I don't come on as much as I use to. Since I have joined alot has happended...when I first joined there were around 75 people on the board, me, Viggen, Ursus, Primus, Fanir and some others were the prime posters. UNRV was preety quite, and not many people came on. The site grew slowly, and latter on such loveable figures as Demson, Germanicus, P.Clodius and Pompeis Magnus joined the forums to add many hours of creative debate. Around November 2004 we had a short influex of new members who quickly disregarded the site and became just back ground people who never posted. After that mabye in January of 2005...Spartacus came along, he posted hundreds of times but in the end decided to have his own little revolution and curse us all to hell and well yeah we know what happened to that jerk . Well after Spartacus was barred from the sight we had another influex of people who became posters, Ossander I have observed is one of the best known of these people. Finnally we come to August and September 2005, UNRV has over 700 memmbers and has just went through a FOURTH INFLUEX of new posters. So I classify UNRV posters into three catergories.......The First Generation:From 2003 when the site started to November 2004. Then the Second generation started by Spartacus and some other new people, then after the Spartacus Revolution in April 2005 we had the third generation spurred on by Ossander. Finnaly we come to the Fourth Generation that started sometime at the end of August 2005. UNRV has also gained an upgrade and has much more lively debate then when it first started. Correct my dates if I am wrong! And please feel free to add to the history of UNRV.Com and the different generations of people who have come here, and the scandal that evolved from different posters and so on and so on. Zeke
  17. Well, on the part about blasehmony. The Romans didn't nessarily get rid of their gods, the simply thought that the reasons the gods hadn't responded to their sacrfices that they needed to offer more. So they just kept offering till they got their way, sensible in my opinion......teaches the gift of giving, and the loving of your suppeiors. Zeke
  18. Well.......I believe everything is some sort of omen in some way. Hannibal pleased the gods more on the day of Cannae apprently, people would say he was a good tatician. Yet why was he a good tatician to begin with? His parent maybe....yet who said that his father would be a good general? Got to ask yourself that and numerous other questions that the gods have worked into the world, though we may not see it. Disaters happen only in certain areas because their natural to that area in the first place..yet you got to ask yourself....why are they natural to that one place only? Why couldn't they be somewhere else. Hence the Gods work in mysterious ways But other then that the Roman People I know had "Fire Squads" so they must have helped in some sort of emergency. Zeke
  19. It was decent....Better then ABC's Empire! Zeke
  20. What is it you accually do Ursus??? lol. I have noticed you have the most skeptical, cynical, yet wise, approach to all matters realting to life's reality Zeke
  21. I will probably be a businessman because I like to be social. A coffee house or a pub in Dublin will suit me quite nicley! Then when I have enough money I will invest in stocks and take up sheep hearding as a hobby while I watch my children grow on my 40 acer estate. Hopfully from my dividens that I get off stocks and my wife's work I will live a comfortable life for the rest of my days. And then maybe sometime durning my life spanned my religion shall find it home once more on my property and begin to grow.... Sorry about spelling Zeke
  22. I just remember a couple more good ones: Water World-Kevin Costner and Starship troopers........remember the soliders go to the alien plannet and slaughter all the bugs! Classic Sci-Fi war movie. Zeke
  23. Hey there, it's one of my wonderful opinion polls! Here is what you got to do. State your top 10 movies that you think are the best of all time it doesn't matter if their rated NC-17 or G or whatever ratings are in Europe, and tell what actors in the movie you enjoyed most. These in my opinion are the top 10 moives of all time with my discription and actors: 1. American Beauty (Some good actors don't remmeber their names)-acurate discription of 1990's American nuclear family life style. 2. Galtiator (Russel Crowe)-Probably one of the best movies I have ever seen because it touched my heart and made me cry at the end though it might not be too historically acurate I enjoyed it never the less 3. Captain Correli's Mandolin (Penelope Cruz and Nicolas Cage)-A wonderful love story set in World War 2 on the island of Cephallonia in Greece. 4. Vanilla Sky-(Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz)-Another love story that has a very odd plot, with alot of forshadowing and deeper meaning. It has to deal with a giant Lucid dream and a alternative reality. 5. Totoro-(Animated cartoon)-A Jappanese cartoon that though rather childish was on of Hydo Miazaki's best he also wrote Spirited away which you might have heard of. 6. Mermaids-(Winnona Ryder)-About a girl growing up and facing her sexually premicious mother. 7. Signs-(Mel Gibson)-Classic Alien flick it gave me a jump now and then 8. Girl Interupted-(Winnona Ryder) THe story of Susana Kasen as she lives in a mental hospital for a year. 9. The Lion King-(animated cartoon)-One of disney's best! Was a revolution in the 1990s of how cartoon movies were done 10. House of Flying Dagger-(Forgien Film)-Like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, with alot of martial arts and a love story Well thats my top 10! If you wish to state your idea of the worst movies of all time go ahead. The top 10 worst movies of all time for me are 1.The Village 2. All the Maxtrix's 3. Sin City 4. Anything to do with the X-Files. 5. Passion of the Christ 6. Druids 7. The Princess bride (That was so fake) 8. Panokee'O. (I feel bad for that poor little wooden puppet) 9.
