  1. Viggen, this one is for you... Would-be gladiators are gearing up for a weekend festival in Carnuntum, Lower Austria - on the site of an ancient Roman gladiator school which was only discovered in 2011. Fans of Ancient Rome can explore the world of the gladiator on August 23rd and 24th, with authentic gladiator fights, training sessions in the gladiator school and numerous workshops in the Bad Deutsch-Altenburg Amphitheatre. One of the highlights will be a performance by Marcus Junkelmann’s gladiator troupe - considered to be a leading expert in the field of Roman gladiator-related studies. Performances will begin on both days at 1pm and 4pm, accompanied by authentic Roman-era music. Visitors will be encouraged to get involved with crafts and games - which range from painting swords and shields to making a Roman oil lamp from clay, or trying out some gladiator skills. There will also be a music workshop in which participants can experiment with replica Roman instruments and try and create a 1,700 year old sound experience. Normal entrance fees apply. A shuttle service will be operating between the Open Air Museum Petronell and the Amphitheatre Bad Deutsch-Altenburg every 15 minutes. Source: The Local
  2. Interesting event in London this weekend! Fighting gladiators, ancient treasures and 1000 year old hairstyles hit King’s Cross this weekend in a celebration of the area’s rich Roman history. Battle Bridge, in Granary Square on Saturday and Sunday, is an immersive, theatrical, family day out, themed around the mythological history of the neighbourhood. Visitors can learn how to battle like a Roman with gladiator workshops, take a bath, make a mosaic, dress up in period costumes and even have their hair-braided in the height of Roman fashion. For the grown-ups, Roman cocktails will be on offer, as well as plenty of banqueting from nearby street food hub Kerb. Anna Strongman, in charge of events at the King’s Cross development, said: “Battle Bridge is a great way of bringing the Roman legend of King’s Cross to life. We’re planning a full-on, fun, educational two days for everyone who comes to visit. We want families to come along and experience all that King’s Cross has to offer - carpe diem.” The free event runs from 11am to 5pm both days, visit www.kingscross.co.uk/battle-bridge Source: Islington Gazette

    Gladiators of the Arena

Hello everyone! I'm new here, just saying hi!!! I am currently working with a team on a game based in Rome. I was once dicussing with a friend who was doing history about roman games. Basically it came down to the fact that there's just so many options - if one were to follow the exact time-lines, it's almost endless. We'd like to incorporate as much of history as possible with out project, Gladiators of the Arena. It's currently work in progress, many things to update. Too me, games can help with learning things via association, as well as being entertaining.
