Thank you! I placed the order I was just more curious as to whether or not it would be shipping soon and I would receive it before Christmas. But we shall see eh!

Oooh, very excited to be here!

I am studying classics and hope to go digging at Hadrian's Wall within the next two years, can't afford the airfare yet.

My interest is the intersection between the military and religion. Since I served for 12 years, I thought I might put my background to good use, especially since all the military academies worldwide STILL read the Roman classics.

Looking forward to asking questions, getting answers, making friends and all that good stuff.

PS

Felix Novus Annus :D

"Admin"

Hello,

I am an avid history reader and hold under graduate degrees in 1)Human Relations and 2)History/Poli SCI

I am also a fan of sci fi.

the reason i bring this up is because in a sci fi forum i am in, there is currently a discussion on "conspiracies and falseness of history". several members are stating that "roman emperors were black". the yare speaking of the likes of Septimus Severus and Caracalla. The y believe that because these men were born in the province of africa then they must be black! they hold nor will hear any evidence that the province of africa was only at the coastline of the continent and that the "natives" of the area were primarily non-black.

this, too me, is child's play, but-as a student of history, I can't just let it go. So, I searched out a site such as this to gain some levity and solace(???)

if anyone would like to "chime in" on the conversation there, i  can provide the address-you can read through without joining.

I don't want to just post the link here because i do not want to look like I am "advertising" or something

So, please, someone reaffirm what I know already--that the five "adoptive emperors" were not black, sub saharan africans ( i would have no problem if they were, it is just that history does not support it)

thx

Just joined the site yesterday after finding it through another site.

I love the topic of history and always found the Roman Empire fascinating.  I wish I had more time to read and learn more about it, but at this time I'm more of a generalists with interests across the board.

I look forward to contributing to the site and reading more of the great information on here.

Welcome to UNRV RonnyBoy - generalists have their place here just the same as specialists. Apart from anything else there are probably more generalists than specialists about anyway ;)

HI!  Since I'm new here just thought I'd introduce myself.  I love history but have never been particulary drawn to Roman history...UNTIL, I found out our church, who every year does a Vacation Bible School focused on a different Bible story and the historical place associated with it, was doing "Rome:  Paul and the Early Church" this year.  So I started digging in to Roman History and WOW, is it fascinating!  I guess I was never drawn to it before because I don't care for Greek and Roman mythology, but the politics, society, and culture of Rome in general is just interesting stuff!  I'm so glad to find this forum because everything I read just leads to more questions (which I'll be asking in more appropriate places here).

(But, on a side note...if anyone wants to know how to make cheap,  fake "tile roof" out of construction paper for a classroom display or something like that...or how to make a kids craft with laurel wreaths...I have some great ideas.  I'm helping with crafts and decor for our VBS so will have some more cheap "Roman decor" tips by the time I'm done).

Welcome Number Six.  I take it this is not a typo for the Classic Number 6:

'I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own. I resign.'
