....how English sound to people that dont understand it.

Recommended Posts

ever wondered what english sounds like if you dont speak it...? ...a gem from Adriano Celentano,

The American-English sounding lyrics are actually pure gibberish and asked why he wrote that song,

"having just recorded an album of songs that meant something, I wanted to do something that meant nothing".

For the Ancient Romans, the Germanic tongues (and the relatively large Germans) must have been very intimidating:

This is a very sweet McDonalds Commercial with the even more gutteral and intimidating Dutch:

guy also known as gaius

Whah ! The McDo commercial is pure dutch from the Netherlands, with quite a strong accent ! Even someone able to understand dutch (especially the flemish version) has a hard time with that one !

here an interview between a flemish (belgian dutch) reporter and an afrikaaner (Charlize Theron from South Afirca), you can really hear good the strong difference between those two and the netherlands dutch, (i think flemish and afrikaans are closer than dutch) Theron starts to reply in afrikaans after 50 seconds or so...

I understand afrikaans quite well as i lived several years in SA, and for me flemish is much easier to understand than the dutch from the Netherlands...

I'm reminded of this little gem that tries to outline how other languages (especially those with strong Hispanic or Greek roots) sound to English speakers. (Ignore the first 2 seconds about tornados).

Thanks for the link.

I love the Netherlands and enjoy the Dutch people.

That said, the strong guttural Dutch spoken by a tall and beautiful woman in Amsterdam is very disturbing. I always thought that Dutch should be used in movies as the barbarian Germanic language.
