This is an interesting article on Nefertiti, Queen of Egypt. She was best known for her beauty, but she is now being reassessed as a powerful and independent ruler of Egypt after the death of her husband Pharaoh Akhenaten.

”it's become pretty clear that rather than dying as Akhenaten's queen, as it used to be thought, Nefertiti actually survived him as a fully-fledged female pharaoh, one of the tiny number of such women who have existed over the years.”

I've watched numerous docs on her. One suggested that the bust was a fake, modern made, not ancient.

I wonder where it was excavated from? I don't remember actually hearing if it was just found in the ground all by itself or in a tomb or ruins of a temple. Perhaps just discarded because of her being considered a heretic?

Thanks for sharing the video.

I have never read any of this information before. The sculptor's actual studio was found with portrait heads? How exciting. Thank you so much.

ETA:  I would love to visit The Egyptian Museum of Berlin. Have you been there?

Thank you for reading this post.

“Dietrich Wildung dismissed the claims [that the bust was fake] as a publicity stunt since radiological tests, detailed computer tomography and material analysis have proved its authenticity. The pigments used on the bust have been matched to those used by ancient Egyptian artisans. The 2006 CT scan that discovered the "hidden face" of Nefertiti proved, according to Science News, that the bust was genuine.”

Interesting article about the CT scan technology that seems to confirm its authenticity:

The CT scan showed that the Nephertiti bust had a limestone core:

“No 20th Century artist would go to the extraordinary trouble of carving a limestone bust in exquisite detail and then hiding it below a coat of plaster. For years, the Berlin officials have argued that chemical tests showed the paint and plaster on the bust were identical to those used by Ancient Egyptian artisans. Now they also have computer-backed evidence that the limestone carving is also genuinely ancient.”
