...directly to known Roman families?

I've often wondered if names like Giuliani indicate some connection to the Julii or Juliani. Are there any proven family lines, or is there just too little in the way of records during the Dark Ages to trace lineage?

I thought we had this discussion in another thread recently. The conclusion, as I recall, was very very probabaly NOT.

I would have to agree Dan Brown books are not great would not use them as a reference anyway. Also The Da Vinci Code the movie for example was really bad.

I think Pantagathus was being facetious.

Please tell me that you jest. Dan won't put pencil to paper again?!

Actually I have heard that the Borghese claim that honor in addition to myself.

As an amateur genealogist, I've never heard of any documented pedigree that reached back beyond the time of Charlemagne. Perhaps it was the many barbarian invasions and migrations, the decline of the Roman school system, and the general decline in life expectancy and living standards in the West that made record keeping there impossible.
