Forum Meeting In UK

If we are all planning to stay overnight, it might be worth contacting York university to see whether they can offer any accommodation.

If we plan to meet around Easter it might be when the university is down/on vacation and thus there are rooms to spare in halls of residence at cheap prices. We might even get a room to socialise in.

A Tolkien group I was involved in have done that in Oxford and Manchester, I cannot see why it should not apply in York.

Just an idea,

Phil

That is where I will probably be staying anyway: I have a student friend already residing there. If you want, I can ask her if there are many rooms available during term time.

I am a little busy this week--I have started my dive into Classical Archeaology at University, meaning I have to do the rounds on various pubs...--but I will get round to it sooner or later.

Worry not , the main thing is that we plan steadily in advance, a stitch in time etc.

York has a plethora of good hotels and guesthouses: and Ive stayed in a lot of them. Phil has asked about rooms at the Uni, I see my favoured location has now been re-named:-

I am aware that "delegates" pockets may be short or long ,(though WW who is the "penurious jaunty young academic" at the start of his glorious career has found a haven already), so -please pm saying if your preference is:

1.to seek a hotel yourself

2.send me a link to a particular hotel/guesthouse and ask my opinion

3.prefer a "conference" booking.

which brings me to the nub of the matter.Food and Drink. Please also pm with your personal preferences for gustatory excess and inebriation .

I should warn you all , that I will automatically move toward this establishment on auto pilot:

but-check this link out:

I presume The Augusta and Phil 25, by virtue of given location are experts in the cusine of the Subcontinent?

ps: Lacertus cant you jet in for the weekend ?

I'm sorry to say but i cant make on that week-end due to the missus celebrating her birthday on the 15th, which is a shame as i was looking forward to the meet, but not to worry, hopefully it will be a big success and there will be many more to come.

You guys better supply a plethora of pictures!

Is this the first forum meeting?

Overlooked your post Antiochus, dont worry I forsee an avalanche of images. They may be a bit blurry , as I have concerns regarding sobriety of the Meeting. Yes it will be the first get together of any members, I hope , eventually we can have a major meeting in Italy itself-but this is just a dream at present.

Excellent news, Longbow will risk domestic wrath to join us on the Saturday of the meeting!

I have been over to York today ( I have actually visited Corbridge on the Wall, and dropped off at York on the way back) to check locations/posible speaking "spots"/facilities. I will drop a few photos into my "Eboracvm" gallery to update you all.
