Guess the ancient city!

Recommended Posts

And it is indeed an easy one because I walked through this arch just last fall. It's the Newport Arch in Lincoln, England.

Well done Ummidia! Ab-sol-ute-ly spot on! Over to you to set the next one.

PS Would love to know if Maladict had the answer.

PPS You should've said you were visiting Lincoln. I do guided tours of the City, and I have an open offer to all UNRV contributors of a freebie!

Lincoln is a lovely city. I had a great time touring the Roman sites but would have taken you up on your offer if I had known. Next time!

Though spring has sprung here, I'm off to snowy Calgary for a few days  but I should be able to monitor any guesses for my submission:

From the weather and the construction of the wall core, I'd guess Caistor?

If its not Caistor I'd actually go for Lympne instead.

Then there's only one other it could be: Silchester!

I still feel that it is somewhere quite a bit further east with all that low lying ground beyond the walls and Richborough seems a possibility.

I get the feeling I need to get out and do more personal site visits - Burgh Castle?

I'm guessing somewhere around the Mediterranean rim.

Just someone's basement to go on, but I'll guess south-western Med based on my shaky knowledge of Roman brickwork - 1st century Gades perhaps?
