Luckily, I do not currently have issues with my eyesight. If I did, I don't know if I could do contacts but it's hard for me to say because I've never had to try.

I have a relative who is a renowned eye surgeon in Florida and he swears that regular corrective surgery is still better than LASIK if done by a good doctor.

For me though, the thought of somebody cutting open my eyeball no matter how good they are makes me cringe!

So if I were in your shoes, I would be worried about the clinic too...

Is laser surgery an option?

Yes, it is laser operation in famous Moscow clinic.

But I'm afraid :(

Well that changes things a bit. I wouldn't worry too much about it if the clinic has a good reputation. Laser correction is a pretty failsafe operation. :)

Laser is very good nowadays-but the clinic must be of the best standing. For quality self-medication seek out "lutein" and a natural "beta carotenoid" , bilberry is (believe it or not ) very good for the health of the eye.Golden Seal herb-which is a canadian product ,can be used with care.

Thanks, Pertinax. I know about bilberry and had used it. Yes, it's good for eyes, I would like to use it in future instead operation, but my eyesight becomes worse in spite of it.

I never heard about Golden Seal herb before. Maybe it's more strong herb then bilberry?

Laser Surgery is the best scenario but I do not reccomend you entrust your precious eyes to a Moscow clinic, unless ofcourse it has a good track record. Does the clinic have a good track record?

If you plan on traveling sometime to western Europe I can recommend some excellent and well recognized clinics in England, France or Germany.

In the meantime try to avoid wearing lenses too much, I suggest you wear glasses in the meantime but ofcourse there is no harm in wearing lenses on special occasions. The problem with lenses is that overuse will make your eyes dry and thats not good for your retina. But don't worry about the lasik surgery, there is no pain involved, people usually get nervous before the surgery it's very natural. As for the ophthalmic microsurgery, I think there is no need for such an aggressive procedure at this point, I would avoid that. Lasik is an easier surgery and has a very high rate of success especially for people your age. But don't take any risk with your local clinic, your eyes and your health are the most important so you should only do it at a clinic you can fully trust and be comfortable with.

Thanks, tflex. I found some information about the Moscow clinic.

here

and I cannot do operation outside Russia for many reasons.

I understand, just make sure to find out everything you can about the clinic before you make a decision, maybe ask someone who has already been there and try to find out if the equipment they are using is new and if the doctor is experienced in laser surgery. Keep me updated. :(

O'k! I visited this clinic this week and had got some consultations.

I have different opinions about this clinic but all people who told me about it said that laser surgery is good here and I must not worry about it.

My operation will be the 28 of February. I'm sure about a good result for me.

Great news Lacertus, I'm sure everything will work out fine. After the surgery your eyes will be a little dry and sensitive to shiny lights, but don't worry it happens to everyone for about 3 weeks after the surgery. The surgery is very effective you will notice a significant improvement in your eyesight within 2-3 days and after about 2 months you should have 20/20 vision. It's amazing I'm very happy for you. :(

How did the operation on your eyes go? I hope it went well.

If it is of any help to you, the name of the Egyptologist at the Brooklyn Museum (in New York City) is Richard Fazzini.

Oh, my operation was good and I haven't problems with my eyes now (I wear glasses sometimes but it's not so need for me now).

thanks!

Yes, I know Richard Fazzini, I already read his lectures about Luxor and about history of Egypt. I found he's one of the best egyptologist in the world now. I often use his thought about history of Egypt. They are always very competent and understandble.

If you ever visit him or the Brooklyn Museum, let me know and my Bride and I will take you to lunch or dinner. Unfortunately it will not be with Richard and Mary. I'll TRY to get his e-mail from a mutual friend, if you like.
