Thanks for the warm comments, I left off at the part when my life went a bit crazy and I had just asked my mate to help me write the book. I think!

Well at this point about 10 months ago I was still drawing and noting, nothing serious when I received several phone calls and letters and what-not. All saying that my request to emmigrate to Australia, so I had just sorted out my life after a messy braek-up when I get the news. The bungalow had just sold so i didn't have long left in there either. Basically whether I was having doubts or not my life was hurtling at Aus faster than I wanted it to. I was in a bit of a mess.

I got two chapters of rough work just to show my mate what I was trying to achieve and what issues i was trying to touch upon. He got them and being a competent writer added his own work to - and on - it (I have recently combined the chapters and taken a fair chunk of what he did out). I may need some advise on this subject from a few people - should I get rid of all the bits he did and replace it with my own work for whatever reasons?

A moving date was settled and in a frantic blur I was almost on it. My final week in sunny ol' England was 5 days of drinking about 50 units in 7 days. I left my life and all my friends behind. I wasn't excited at all, in fact I was borderline devastated. I killed the book near the end of January-ish.

So that was it, I thought. However I am clearly here on UNRV, so what happened I hear you ask. Well basically once I had 'semi-settled' here I found myself thinking about the book and restarted it. In a flurry of preparation I was ready to work out the first third of my book. My friend had pulled out when I did and now I can see wasn't really prepared or even cared. I hastily bashed out a plot-line and then had to 'almost-completely-settle' and left it be for a while.

Those around from when the time I joined can see I dropped off UNRV for a long time. Anyone remember that? Anyway, I booted it up again a few months ago and spent some really serious time on it. Finishing the first third at about 45000 words, although I am currently editing that third, but I have just began the first chapter of the next third.

Well now you know where I am at I will be using this blogging space for whatever I want. Which probably means quite a lot of short film reviews (not short films but short reviews), ranting about my novel and the Romans in general, sport and guitar blab.

So, you've moved to Australia now? Yes, it can be devastating, leaving all your friends and everything that's familiar behind. One great thing about Internet message boards like UNRV (among a lot of great things) is that you've always got familiar folks here to come "home" to and converse with, no matter where you are in the world. :)

Keep working on that book of yours, VTC! I'm glad you decided to pick up with it where you left off.

I did it--as a conscious move--when I applied for, and then left for, doctorate programs. I had spent all my life in California, outside of a trip to Hawaii for a week and 4 days in Columbus, Ohio (and several trips to Nevada, which really don't count). I wanted to live somewhere else in this huge country of mine...and so I did. I didn't know a soul in Austin, Texas...and I don't regret a second of my decision!
