   Publius Vergilius (or Virgilius) Maro (70 BCE - 19 BCE), one of Rome's greatest poets, born in Cisalpine Gaul. His works include the Aeneid (written at the request of the Emperor Augustus). Virgil died with his Aeneid unfinished, while travelling with Augustus to Greece.
