Publius Ovidius Naso (43 BCE - 17 CE), one of Rome's greatest poets, born in a valley of Italy's Apennine Mountains. His works include the Metamorphoses. He died in the city which is now known as Constanta in Romania, after years of exile, having been banished from Rome by the Emperor Augustus in 8 CE.
