  1. I'm now reading Stephen Kings latest epic offering, Under the Dome. So far this book is brilliant, its on a par with what in my opinion his his best book The Stand.

That does sound interesting. Thanks for the scoop!

Believe me Ursus it is interesting!! I can't put the bloody thing down!! The pace of the story just keeps getting faster and faster as the story unravels and Stephen King's story telling is at it's very best, the man's a genius!

It's quickly turning into one of the best books I've ever read, the only problem is that I'm getting towards the latter stages of the book now and I really don't want it to end!

  2. This is only for the UK members,

A new Documntary series of Deadliest Warrior starts tonight on Bravo at 10pm... Roman Centurion V Rajput Warrior....... Wil the Rajput Warrior's evil looking weapons be all flash and no substance when they facethe Roman Centurion's cold steel?

  3. I've just watched the season finale of Spartacus and it was really good, the best episode of the series. I very nearly didn't bother sticking with the show after the first episode, I thought it was a bit silly!!! But I'm glad I did, it got better and more entertaining as it went on.

Is the next series gonna be a prequel?? I know it hits the UK in 2011 but that's all.

Anyone got a bit more info on it??

  4. I have no permission to view the blogs.

The 'view new posts' button seems to have gone.

I too am have no permission to view the blogs??

But the "view new posts" option is now located at the bottom of the main forum page under the new title of "Today's Active Content" but I must admit it took me a while to find it.

Also I've been back on the forum for a few days now and all the recent posts since I've been back have disappeared.

But apart from those few little niggles, on the whole I think its looking pretty good.!

  5. I've seen the Gracchi brothers described variously as true revolutionaries and also as demogogues just trying to salvage the interests of the slaveholding elite through minor, necessary reforms. Can anyone suggest a solid study of two that looks at this question?

It may not be a solid study but "The Assassination of Julius Caesar" by Michael Parenti has an excellent chapter called "Demagogues and death squads" which covers the whole question of demagoguery, in particular the rise of the Gracchi, Catiline, Caesar and the leading men of the Republic who fell into the category of Populares.

  6. Anyone know good articles/books about Tacitus views on Augustus and his rule?

Other than Book I of The Annals by Tacitus where he starts by detailing the later stages of the reign of Augustus before continuing with the story of Imperial Rome, I'm not sure but I'd also be interested in reading any other articles etc.

  7. Here is the best Fedor highlight.

    Every single Fedor fight. http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f44/all-fedors-fights-998451/

Fedor's next fight will be on CBS November 7. He is fighting undefeated Brett Rodgers.

    Rodgers on Fedor. http://mmasportsreport.com/649/brett-rodge...get-knocked-out

    ^^

I find it really baffling that he's about to face the best fighter in the world and he's only seen 1 Fedor fight from start to finish? Doesn't he want to analyze fedor and his tendencies and to see how he can exploit them? I mean, this is easily his biggest fight opportunity of his career and it seems as though that he's way too nonchalant about it, and to not take advantage of the massive library of Fedor's fights seems to be a bit disadvantageous to the worst degree.

I'm sure it's just a bit of reverse psychology on Rogers part, trying to make out that he's not the slightest bit bothered or concerned about Fedors talent and reputation. But you can bet your life that he's studied every single little bit piece of footage Emelianenko's fights he can get his hands on, if he hasn't then he's either plain stupid or unbelievably rock hard!!

  8. btw the book you speak of, at both online stores is only in hardcover and about 18 CAD . You will have to tell me if it is worth a peak.

The book was pretty good really, no new revelations or anything like that, it focused mainly on the effect and the aftermath of the assassination of Caesar had on Rome and whether it actually really achieved anything in the long run. It deals with the questions of tyranny and political assassination through out the ages.

All in all a pretty decent book but I'm glad I didn't pay the full asking price.

  9. I don't really have any clue on the copyright laws what so ever so on that front I can't help but I would just like to say that I've been following your blog from the start and have enjoyed the pictures and the little explanation that goes with each one, so whatever the case with the copyright thing, if you have to give the museums credit then do so but just keep on blogging!!! :clapping:

  10. .... Sadly, I've got more chance of winning EuroMillions than becoming famous, but what the hey... *lol*

    Cheers

    Russ

You never know Russ! keep plugging away and one day who knows..........everyone has to start somewhere and Gladiatrix IMO was an excellent starting place. I for one enjoyed it and will certainly purchase the next book when it's published.......(That is if I get a walk in part too!!!! ;) )

  11. One of my neighbors have placed it for a few months are among the top 50-60 or so. he's spending far too much time on the game though.

I can believe it, I bet it can become really addictive.

I just registered with it and havent a clue what is going on! Is there an online manual somewhere?

You just kind of have to suck it and see,

once you get your city you get 7 days to build it up before you can be attacked. there's a routine quest that helps you along and gives you targets to meet in order to progress to the next level.

It's pretty good fun but be warned it can get rather addictive.

  13. I was just wondering if anybody had played or come across Evony which is a browser based multiplayer online game?

I've played it for a couple of days now and am quite enjoying it, you start of with basically very little and have to build up your city by populating it and building farms, mining, lumbering etc. You get seven days of peace to establish yourself before you become open to attack from neighbouring cities.

This is the first time I've played anything like this online and just wondered if anybody had any thoughts on this game.

  14. Even today the Romans are still interfering with the Scots favorite pastime which is producing and drinking whiskey....

IT WAS built in 142 AD to stop Caledonian tribes marching on Roman outposts. But the Antonine Wall is now stopping the march of development by putting in jeopardy plans for a new distillery and 87 jobs.

Falkirk Distillery Company (FDC) is trying to revive production of one of Scotland's most prized Lowland single malts on a site close to where the wall ran. But the plan has encountered objections from Historic Scotland and now faces a public inquiry.

The government agency says the nearby wall

  15. I immediately did my best Michael Jackson impression and moon walked all the way back to the shelf and put the book back.

    ;)

Still Amazon is very good especially if you use market place. I sometimes get perfect quality books for as little as 1p (not counting delivery prices of course). I recently got a hold of a book on Ancient Greece for a very cheap price from marketplace.

I've picked some amazing bargains in the past too, both in the marketplace and brand new, some of the books I've got from the marketplace have been in perfect condition too.

The rise of Amazon and other online bookstores must have really put a serious dent in the profits of the big retail chains.

  16. yes you can!

I will order books from Chapters-Indigo rather than Amazon.ca.

prices are similar, (I know selection is larger in Amazon), but service and delivery times are better with Chapters. at least in Canada.

Ahh yes Artimi but you're in Canada and I'm in the UK so the P&P would be astronomical!!!! :(

Of course I'll let you know how the book shapes up!!
