Majorianus Invictus Posted June 18, 2010 Report Share Posted June 18, 2010 According to wikipedia (sorry, I was in a rush and on my Iphone) in 449 Orestes was sent by Attila twice to Constantinople as envoy to Emperor Valentinian III. Then the next entry they have is that in 475, Orestes was appointed magister militum and patricius by Western Roman Emperor Julius Nepos. My question is did he do anything of importance between 449 and 475? Was he connected to Ricimer, or Majorian? Did he serve in the West under them? It seems that someone who rose to the rank of Atilla's secretary would be of some use to those struggling to keep the Empire together. As always, thanks guys, H. Majorianus Invictus You may consider scanning through some of the works of Procopius. He wrote primarily about Justinian's age, but it is my impression that he also gave a lot of background information about the 5th century.
