BTW Wikipedia claims 'Cosplay' as a Japanese invention (SIC) which has spread into other cultures that 'is a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea.' This description totally loses the point that 'Cosplay' is a term used by someone from Japan attending the 1984 World Science Fiction convention where people wearing costumes representing fictional characters was a long established part of the 'culture' of some participants. In its 'home' territory of SF and Fantasy conventions depending on the circumstances it is called it either wearing 'Hall costumes' or 'participating in the masquerade'.
