Guest NeroGermanicus Posted August 17, 2005 Report Share Posted August 17, 2005 I recently read Tacitus' "The Annals of Imperial Rome" and its alluded to that Germanicus may have been poisoned (by Tiberious?) because he died at such an early age (early 30's). Would appreciate feedback because Germanicus, as opposed to Tiberius, seemed to be a moral man who may have had Imperial ambitions of his own. Tacitus also mentions that Germanicus was compared to Alexander the Great during his time. My reading of the situation is that, if he lived, Germanicus may have become emperor. And if he did he not only could have conquered the Germanic peoples extending the empire beyond the elbe; but would have been a benevolant emperor saving Rome from a string of losers.
