The blur of the 2nd interview

Today I have been at a 4-year public university, having a second interview for an Assistant Professor position. I'm not tired; I'm not fatigued. I'm...wilted. Why, you ask? Well, let me tell you the schedule for the day. Note that I got **location censured to protect my chances** yesterday afternoon, and rested up well last night.

7:30am--picked up by the department chair

8:00am--meeting with dean--all talk by her, whilst I sat and nodded and listened

9:00am--meeting with selection committee, which is 5 professors

10:00am--walking tour of campus with the department chair

11:00am--coffee with department chair

12:00pm--lunch with 2 members of the department, one of which teaches the class that I'll be guest teaching

2:00pm--guest teach a course

4:00pm--research talk

5:30pm--dinner

I'm not drained...but I'm brain dead. I'm not drained, but I'm showered, in my jammies, and in bed, relaxing. I'm ready to sleep in tomorrow (well, to 8am, anyway), and ready to get going for the next interview next week.

On the other hand, I know how to finish my dissertation, and to get it in on-time. I know what to do now...well, I always knew what to do, but I now am even more focused than before. Let's hope there's at least one job offer from all of this!

P: Jacuzzi and sauna , light sleep.

GO: (Only needed once a year at most. Are you trying to kill her?)

Me: Jacuzzi/sauna/sleep is best, methinks. Esp. after walking all day in heels!

P: 1.butter glazed baby asparagus

GO: (Lots of oysters)

Me: Definitively P's answer; I'm allergic to shellfish, and asparagus is an all-time fave

P: 2.soup of lamb's kidneys

GO: (Past' 'e fazoul)

Me: gotta go Pasta e faggiole...not a 'innards' fan, save for bacon-type products (are they still considered from innards?)

P: 3.sauted veal with light nochhi verde

GO: (Wot's this?)

Me: he means gnocchi...and I could do this. Even if my nonna ruined veal for me (she made it mushy...don't ask)...this could hit the spot.

P: 4.profiteroles

GO: (And sfogliatelles and cannoli.)

Me: Yes, please

P: 5.a selection of cheeses, celery hearts and oat biscuits.

GO: (And lots of port wine and cigars.)

Me: Don't know if the port/cigars would go...but I like the cheese/celery idea!

P: Dry Martini, Pertimaxus,

GO: (Perfect Patented!)

Me: Amen

P: A smokey Claret . Monbazillac.

GO: (Yeah, sure.)

Me: hey, don't be picky...might even go a nice Pinot Noir or Chianti (I'm into lighter reds right now...just in the mood, I guess)

P: Retire.

GO: (Why bother? Party. You're already smashed. Put it off to another day. Tell them you were in jail.)

Me: If in good company, then I shall be with them. If alone (and that would be sad), then I shall retire. Sorta.

Either way...there will be celebration appropriate to the number of job offers received. Gotta go through this again on Wednesday with Campus #2. Heels and all!

 (Past' 'e fazoul)! Faggoli!, indeed! ;)

So long as you are going to perform a chemistry experiment in your stomach at the end of the exquisite culinary respite, why don't you throw in a beer and a bump? :hammer:

May Fortuna be with you, but, when all else fails, bribery usually assures the proper outcome. ;)
