I want to go back.

Gaius Paulinus Maximus

As most of you already know, my beautiful , gorgeous, sexy wife  got me the best present ever.....A trip to Rome for my 30th birthday, well to say I was chuffed to bits would be a serious understatement, I've actually been to Rome before but that was on a football trip to watch Leeds Utd v AS Roma in the Champions League, yes that's right, Leeds were once a good team! But anyway as it was a football trip the only sights I got to see were the inside's of the bars and tavern's.

Anyway this time I wanted to see everything, well as much as we could cram into two full days. We had a good flight time so we were in our hotel for about 10:30 which by the way was absolutely fantastic, it was called Hotel Fortyseven and was located on the Via Petroselli just adjacent to the Tiber island and within spitting distance of the Forum and Colosseum. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, it is a bit pricey but in my opinion well worth the money.

Day 1

We set off armed with a street map of Rome and a good guide book, We'd decided not to go straight to the forum, Colosseum and Palatine area's first and save that for the day after so we could get an early start at it, so we set off in the opposite direction and headed toward the Pantheon. I felt the same way as I passed through the halls of El Escorial, the palace outside of Madrid that Felipe II built in the 1500s...and when I walked through old Toledo, as well as the Alhambra. So much history comes alive all at once! I'm drooling to go back to Europe and see more, as well as visit these 'old friends'. Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip...can't wait to hear the rest!

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip! I've just been looking at your pictures in the Gallery and they were excellent. I have no doubt you'll be getting back to Rome again soon.

First comment - I haven't finished your blog yet, but will put you out of your misery before I go on:

The inscription on the Pantheon reads: Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, built [this] in his third consulship (i.e. 37BC). Hadrian at least allowed him to keep his inscription!

I'll be back...

I am so glad you had a great time, Gaius. Your wife should be made an honorary empress! And I knew you'd love Piazza Navona. You now have the perfect excuse to go back, as there is far too much to enjoy in two days.

So, whoever warned you that the Spanish Steps and Trevi were too full of crowds was right! (It may have been Mosquito or Maladict - can't quite remember). But at least I hope you managed to toss a coin in to ensure your return!

I loved your photos. What is your zoom? 200mm?

Oh yes there were many a coin tossed into the fountain! :P

The piazza Navona was good but I preferred Campo De Fiori where we spent our second night eating and drinking.

I've been really busy this past few weeks with work and stuff so haven't had much time to finish the rest of my blog, hopefully I'll get it done this week end.
