   Isis had sailed the high seas to search for her murdered brother-husband, the god Osiris. In memory, lamp-carrying cult adherents led a costumed procession to the harbor. A vessel decorated with Egyptian motiffs was filled with offerings to the goddess and set adrift. The priests then declared the start of the sailing season.
    
   Back at the local temples, the priests said prayers for the health of the Emperor, the Senate, the equestrian order, and the Roman people.
    
   This cult was frowned upon during the Republic, but after Tiberius this spring time festival could be found celebrated in every port town of the Empire.
