industrial

Pertinax

in case you thought I was a Luddite-this industrial image is, I think quite beautiful in its own way. Through a train window so you must excuse the reflection.

Beautiful! Where is it? Is it a limestone quarry?

This is Shap cement works, the train has just reached the summit of its long run uphill from Oxenholme moving toward Penrith and Carlisle ( speed of about 100mph) So this is the modern County of Cumbria, otherwise more Brigantian territory in Roman times. . Many American visitors pass this way travelling from London to Edinburgh via Carlisle. I love this view-I try to photograph it in all weathers and any time of day-its striking for being in the middle of huge swathes of beautiful ,wild country.
