I have to send quite regualry maps to various customers around the world and luckily till about a few months ago the delivery rate was really good. I think one in 100 maps arrived damaged in some form or shape, so nothing to worry about. However...

About a month ago my post office informed me that round tubes are no longer served, i cannot use them anymore, reason beeing they cannot be stacked, they roll, so they are a logistical nightmare. Ok, whats the alternative? I was told that there is a very good alternative that cost the same and is basically a tube with corners , so they can stack..

well i show you how sturdy those bastards are below... (image thanks to a not so happy customer)

As you can see that thing is quite flat, so i learned two things; dont trust anyone, and those parcels are not handled with care...
Conclusion, i invested in better tubes, in fact if they manage to break them than i give up, see below the monther of all tubes... cost three times as much as a normal one but apparently a Boing 747 can roll over it (not really)...

12288 / 1024 thats the fastest (and sort of affordable) dsl rate in austria. I know that austria is relatively expensive when it comes to broadband fees, for that 12288 down/ 1024 up connection you pay 89 Euro per month (about 95 dollars), i wonder what the fees are in other places around the world.

    Here are some prices for broadband in Austria;

Yesterday I found by accident an old Vinyl of mine in the basement. I had all forgotten about it. The last album from the Beatles. "Abbey Road"

After listening to it for basically the whole of yesterday and today, i have to say. It sounds fresh, vibrant and you can hear at every tune that this is a true master piece. The ending medley espcially Golden Slumber/Carry that Weight/The End is probably one of the best pieces of music ever made. It includes features never heard before by the beatles, rough guitar riffs, one of the few songs to feature harmony vocals from all four Beatles and the only ever drum solo by Ringo Starr...

I am all in love again with the Beatles...

The cover story is about the 2000 year celebration for Carnuntum.

Exatly 2000 years ago, Carnuntum was founded by Tiberius, and just a few years later it became one of the biggest cities of the Roman Empire. The austrian television is in the process of making a documentary of Carnuntum. They invited reenactors from all over Europe to participate in this film. The same people who make this had made in the past the award winning documentary of Oetzi the Iceman, so i am sure this will be fantastic!

Here is an english link to the archaeological park of Carnuntum

Well, my five year old daughter wanted recently desperately ABBAs Greatest Hits, so i listend to it too...

    My favourite 5

    5. Mamma Mia
    4. Voulez Vous
    3. SOS
    2. Fernando
    1. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!

...but to be honest, (just like my daughter), I like all of them (for example Take a Chance on Me is just such a great song), and back in the 80s when it was released for the first time the Rolling Stone Magazine summed it up for me...:

"...there are more infectious melodies, grabby hooks, and danceable drum beats on one side of this two-disc set than in most artists' entire catalogs...

    Amen...

    coin operated boy
sitting on the shelf he is just a toy
but i turn him on and he comes to life
    automatic joy
that is why i want a coin operated boy

...those are the first few lines of a song that i cant get out of my head. I promise, i tried, but it keeps coming back...

It all started with a commercial on austrian TV. The biggest austrian jam manufactorer "Darbo" had a weired (but very interesting) ad, promoting one of their products with this song. (you can see the original version

It is performed by the former street artists "The Dresden Dolls", who describe their style as "Brechtian punk cabaret"...

American`s who name their band Dresden Dolls and their style "Brechtian punk cabaret", what can i say, love it!

p.s. and what about the lyrics hehe, pretty obvious, what the lady is singing here about, isn`t it! ;-)

Hmm, I am a bit late, but in case you missed it, Austria (my native country) won for the first time the Oscar for best foreign-language picture.

The story goes something like this...

The Counterfeiters is the true story of the largest counterfeiting operation in history, set up by the Nazis in 1936. Salomon "Sally" Sorowitsch is the king of counterfeiters. He lives a mischievous life of cards, booze, and women in Berlin during the Nazi-era. Suddenly his luck runs dry when arrested by Superintendent Friedrich Herzog. Immediately thrown into the Mauthausen concentration camp, Salomon exhibits exceptional skills there and is soon transferred to the upgraded camp of Sachsenhausen.

Upon his arrival, he once again comes face to face with Herzog, who is there on a secret mission. Hand-picked for his unique skill, Salomon and a group of professionals are forced to produce fake foreign currency under the program Operation Berhard. The team, which also includes detainee Adolf Burger, is given luxury barracks for their assistance. But while Salomon attempts to weaken the economy of Germany's allied opponents, Adolf refuses to use his skills for Nazi profit and would like to do something to stop Operation Bernhard's aid to the war effort. Faced with a moral dilemma, Salomon must decide whether his actions, which could prolong the war and risk the lives of fellow prisoners, are ultimately the right ones.

...after two months into my adventure becoming really wealthy, i experience side effects i did not expect...

While the focus of this two months were to slash costs on not necessary stuff, something else happend, as i think, breath and act as if i already have those millions on my bank account, the following is happening...

I seem to attract rich people
In the last two months i had an unbelievable amount of interesting encounters with wealthy people, at the weiredest places, i think the smell of money attracts each other (even if i only have them only in my vision yet)

If it wasn`t for the Euro Soccer Championships i wouldnt have turned the TV on, i don`t know if that is true, but it seems when you think of wealth, TV seems to become less attractive, i estimate i watched less then 5 hours the last two months

I stopped reading my local newspaper, it wasn`t even a planned move, the subscription cancelled (fault on their site), so i had spare cash i have now the Financial Times Germany instead and read even more about wealth...

Classical Music is all of a sudden really nice to listen to

I get money i did not count on.
unexpected tax refund, i find money on the street, a guy that owed me for years, all of a sudden paid back in full,

...so there you have it, more to come

    cheers

I managed to move all my current debt into a single low interest loan at my local bank. Which means Credit Card, consumer credit and overdraft (both with high interest) are on zero (and will stay that way). This move which took me less then 60 minutes reduced my monthly payment to service all my debt by 12% and shed a good year of paying back too...

I am really cruising nicely along right now, i am ahead of plan!

The interesting thing is that the more i think of getting rich, the more i think of money, the more i think of how to reduce costs, the more i think of increasing income, the more of all those things are happening --> a classic case of self-fulfilling prophecy?

The average reader manages about 160 to 250 words per minute (wpm). I was a till a week ago at around 260 wpm which is already a bit above the average but nevertheless not really satisfied. I bought a speed reading book and practising now for one week, having managed to finish about a third of the exercises i am currently at a reading speed of 620 wpm. Reading fast without understanding is of course not really useful, so i am glad my speed reading book has its focus on not only reading faster but also understanding what you reading. I would estimate that i will eventually get to 800 wpm without compromising comprehension.

    How fast are you reading?

When you are 187cm (6.1 ft) tall and reach 117.2kg (258,38 pounds) than you know you have a (weight) problem, i didnt like it at all, so about a month ago i started to eat less and better, and 4 weeks later i am down now to 112,9 kg (248,90 pounds). While this is cool and all i realised that eating habit change alone is not going to make me feel better and there will be not much room for a little sin here and there, so i walked yesterday to a gym, signed up and today i already had my first hour there...

I am a early bird, its not unusual for me to wake up at 4 in the morning, but on average i wake up between 5 and 6, so it was to my great excitement when i saw that this particular gym has opening hours from 6 in the morning, which has the added benefit that there is no crowd of muscle packed hunks and super slim barbie dolls, and Mr. 249 pound in the middle... Had this morning first session and well who would have thought, but muscle packed hunks and super slim barbie dolls apparently work out already at 6 on a sunday morning. They were all pretty cool helpful and well more busy with themselves than with me, so yeah, feels good to have some work out early in the morning, i hope to shed now weight on a bit faster rate...

....i keep you up to date..

Loud, pounding drums; harsh, whispered vocals; unusual instrumentation; and a somewhat catchy tune buried underneath. That old-timey bit at the beginning? That's sampling. Caledonia by Cromagnon has all the staples of modern industrial music (minus the angsty lyrics), and it came out way back in 1969.

...after 11 years it is time to move on. Worpress served us at times ok but security and spam issues are got so out of hand its no longer sustainable, and that despite the good reputation it has in general. There are just too many hack attacks and spam floods coming with it that i decided the time has come...

To give you an idea, we run wordpress really only for the front page, basically a news window to new content we produce. The forum, gallery, blog and download section is all one softare and integrated. Now the front page will join the party. Its a huge upgrade for us. There is one database driving than all comunity related. Looking really forward to that. The only thing that is left are the internal pages. Those are all hand coded with no database at all, that will be than the final step to have everything from one database.

A beautiful example (hey dont shoot me if you hate chelsea) is this page that uses the full software suite (forum, home page and content)

Well this is new to me, a virus for a handheld game console!

The PSP (PlayStationPortable) has now its very own Virus/Trojan called Trojan.PSPBrick, which once installed deletes very important system files and won`t start again and is then as usefull as a brick hence the name of the Virus.

More info about the Virus are availabe at Symantec
