    How Did Italian Arise?

Modern Italians are the same as they were thousands of years ago genetically, racially and ethically. Same with the modern Greeks. The Italian language has its roots from Sicilian School of the early 13th century. Sicilian Language was the first standard language and the first official literary standard. After the Sicilian School lost its support and, after little time, it reappeared in Tuscany where a Siculo-Tuscan School, was formed. Some time later Dante Alighieri who was looking for a language that would be apt to the literary needs of all, after studying 14 regional Italian languages, and even recognizing that the Sicilian language had given the start to the vulgarization of the language, decided to adopt the Tuscan language as the that better could lent itself to literature and a unified language. He called it the Dolce stil nuovo, an with it wrote the Divine Commedy. So in time the Tuscan language affirmed itself as the language of the Italian people. Out've all the Romance languages Italian is the closest to Latin. However the Sicilian language which is still spoken on Sicily I think is even closer .

Could Rome Have Fallen Into Ottoman Hands?

Well this Turkish(or whatever he was) leader is a bit outve character in some ways, from what I understand he laid claim to the title of Caesar after the fall of Constantinople but couldn't hold onto his coastal possession in Italy. But did load his court with Italian and Greek scholars, artists and other intellectuals. He was dead-set on uniting/reforming the Roman Empire..tad strange. Major problem with the Turks they where never able to stop or defeat the Venetian, Genoese and Sicilian fleets(The most powerful in the world at that time) which usually raided and won most naval battles against the Turkish forces.

    Boudicca

No theirs nothing wrong with heritage obviously, didn't mean to come across like that, but more what I was referring to is that it creates a certain political ethnic cattiness, which is interchangeable depending the mood at whatever certain time...I just dont care for that kinda thing myself. Boudica was an opportunist ,she saw the fruits of Roman Civilization and thought she could own and lay claim to them her self. The tribes of Britain where never unified, they frequently slaughtered themselves on a daily basis before Rome's arrival. Both her and her husband were Friends & Allies of Rome in fact before she turned on them. I think she also used this as move against her tribal enemies and settle old scores. Her rampage through Roman Britain killed more Britons than Romans,I read of the atrocities committed against the Briton civilians especially what she had done to the women of the villages and cities..anyway she was defeated once first rate and front line Roman legions where moved into battle with a real Military Commander to put down this hostile uprising...and Roman Britain prospered long after she was dead.

Is This True? Julia The Elder

A lot of what was written and what we take as "history" is actually nothing more than invented tripe or just hearsay and gossip by political columnists and enemies, and sometimes this tuff was written many many years after the facts or timeframe. We're finding out that Caligula and Nero did not deserve a lot of the cruel treatment that has been heaped upon their names in the past. As for Julia, she couldve been an embarrassment in soem form or another in the eyes of the people or her parents..then again who knows. That number is rather crazy and the story a bit to bogus.

    Boudicca

The British goe through their stages, every once in while they will claim ancestry or take what they want from the Romans, the Celts, the Saxons, the Normans ect...makes me laugh. These days its fashionable to hate Imperialism and Fascism and things of that aspect, especially after WW2..so they build personality cults around these so-called ethnic/folk heroes representing "Freedom and Liberty" trying o forget about their own Colonial and Imperial and far from laudable past... Of coarse Freedom and Liberty are thing found only in the "Roman Virtues". But Boudicca is interesting, she killed more Britons than Romans!
  7. << Archaeologists digging beneath the Roman Forum have discovered a 3,000-year-old necropolis that pre-dates the birth of ancient Rome by several hundred years. State Television showed an excavation team removing vases from a tomb, which resembled a deep well. Archaeologists were excavating under the level of the ancient forum, a popular tourist site, when they dug up the tomb, which they suspect is part of an entire necropolis, Italian news agency ANSA reported. Inside it was a perfectly preserved funeral urn dating from a thousand years before Christ, the city's cultural superintendent said. The first tomb is exceptionally big and well-preserved, with its 1.2-metre-wide, hut-like roof. Its form resembles a well. A funerary urn that contains human ashes was found in the tomb, as well as bone fragments that appeared to be from a sheep. "We've found people's possessions, like small miniatures of lances, vases and shields that reproduce the aspects of the dead person's domestic life," Archaeologist Alessandro Delfino said. Delfino said he found the roof of a second tomb just meters away from a tomb he discovered and dug up a few days before. Finding another tomb could "indicate the existence of a series of tombs that were built well before the city's foundation," he said. Delfino added the necropolis was destined for high-ranking personalities - like warriors and ancient priests - heading the tribes and clans that lived in small villages scattered on hills near the area which later spawned one of the world's greatest civilizations. State Television quoted experts as saying the tombs appeared to date to about 1000 BCE, meaning the people who constructed the necropolis preceded the legendary founders of Rome by some three centuries. It dates from the transition from Bronze to Iron ages, Rome's archaeology commissioner, Eugenio La Rocca, said. The tomb and its artefacts, which date from the 11th century BCE, will help historians learn more about a time before the foundation of Rome around 750 BCE. Legend has it that Rome was founded in 753 BC by Romulus and Remus, the twin sons of the god of war, Mars. Pyramid Found - In The Heart Of Bosnia!

No the oldest known pyramid is found in Greece, but their are many others littered throughout the European Mediterranean, like in the Canary Islands,Italy and Sicily..and so where this Pyramid was found it isnt all surprising. However his dating is extraordinarily insane and this guy does sound like a certified quack. http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/200605...orcolossalhoax So he's neglecting all the other (older) Pyramids in the Mediterranean & also he makes the mistake of assuming the "Bosnians" where/are the original occupiers, lol!

    Scotland Unconquered

Scotland was conquered as even the Antoine Wall bares testament . But not all the people were never really fully subdued for numerous reasons. But theirs evidence that trade and goods where passing through the walls and contact between the civilized south and Barbarous north occurred..so it may not have been a big deal to conquer them fully. Also theirs some evidence that the Romans had a military and/or trade post in Ireland(Hibernia). Supposedly Agricola had some Hibernian mercenaries serving in one of his outfits during his campaigns. My favorite Roman Commanders are: Marius Caesar Germanicus Agricola Artorius Castus Belisarius

Italy Owes Wine Legacy To Celts

This is really junk news. Wine came from the South of Italy introduced by the Sicilians and Greeks. Even Beer is from the Middle East.
