    Colleen Mccullough's Roman Series...

Yes, I agree Primus. I'm a Caesar fan and even I thought it was a bit over done. It is interesting how she constructed the relationship between Aurelia and Sula, though addament that they were never intament the characters keep seeing that Caesar reminds them of Sula, his eyes ect.

    Location Of The Tarpeian Rock

I thought that those guilty of patricide were put in a sack with a dog, roster and a snake then thrown into the Tiber. Could be wrong.

    Fall Of Rome

As a novice here I'm not sure what my opinion is worth, and my very little knowledge on the subject is probably very obvious, but I thought I would add something here... even if it is just a point to debate and throw away. I read, or saw, some place that the declime of the Roman empire roughly matched a change in global weather paterns. ie dureing Rome's rise the weather in the mediterian was wetter so they could easily grow crops in nothern Africa. Then the weather changed and croping around the Med. came to be harder which in turn added to the troubles that the empire was faceing. I know deforitation and over croping had a part ot play but could something beyond the control of humanity at the time have contributed to their fall?
  4. who has read it and what do you think? Liked it, hated it? How close to history do you think it is? Are the character's personalities anywhere close to what the real people where? I'm new here, and lazy, so if this has been discussed before forgive me. The books in the series are: The First Man in Rome. The Grass Crown. Fortune's Favorites. Caesar's Women. Caesar. The October Horse. If this question is inappropriate for this forum forgive me, as I said I am new, but would be interested in your oppions... By the way I am yet to read The October Horse, but don't worry I think I have a bit of an idea what happens to Caesar

    Why Do You Like Rome?

I think I've always liked the history of Rome. I am constantly amazed by the technology they had and the magnificance of the empire.

    Law Enforcement

I believe that in the city of Rome the Vigiles played a role in law enforcement. Their main job was to watch out for fires and aprehend those who were puting people in danger of fire but I their mandate covered other crimes as well. There were a number of groups of Vigiles assigned to diffrent districts.

    Roman Dogs? Or Cats?

Hiya, this is my first post in here so have mercy. Um, weren't the dogs in a bit of disgrace when they didn't warn about the barbarians attacking and the geese did? Sorry my knowledge is limited but I am fasinated by Rome and the whole ancient world.
