    2012... Heheh. I love a good disaster movie. Haven't decided yet if I'll watch this one in the theater or wait for the DVD. The last end-of-the-world disaster movie I saw was Knowing (with Nicolas Cage) and that was a big disappointment. It was just so... goofy.

     

    I can't get too excited about the Olympics, although the controversy generated by the choice of host cities/countries each time amuses me.

    What a beautiful city! I noticed from the video that there appears to be a lot of places that are car-free and great for pedestrian strolling. I think our own Times Square and Herald Square in New York City are vastly improved since they've been recently made into pedestrian areas.

     

    I truly hadn't heard of the Mecer Quality of Living global city rankings before. Hmmm... New York City isn't #1 on that list??? Hmmm....

    Next up was the main attraction of the Archives... a gated and heavily guarded entry way to the display cases of American History.

     

    When I was in D.C. last summer, the Archives was on my "must see" list. I remember having to wait a looooong time just to get inside the building. Once inside, we were lined up in the hall. Which was fine, because there was quite a crowd. But the guard in charge was a bit over the top. He got really pissy if you put one toe over the line. I am not kidding here. The guy was, like, insane about the line being straight and everyone's feet being precisely behind the line. If you slid your foot forward just an inch (even if the rest of your body remained in line), you got barked at. But, after our group was admitted to the hall, it was like he didn't care anymore what people did. He was just focused on his little job of maintaining a very, very, very, very orderly and straight line prior to admittance to the hall. Nutso!

     

    The visit to the National Archives was a very moving experience for me, too. The huge paintings around the hall also had me enthralled.

    Caldrail, just a suggestion. Library computer techs are often magicians at retreiving lost data. You might want to find out who the tech is at the public library that you frequent, and see if you can arrange some private deal with him to have a look at your computer for you. My own tech man works wonders at fixing virus-afflicted computers, and retrieving data one would think might be irretrieveably lost. Anyway, good luck to you. I know how much something like this sucks when it happens to you.

    May Tiberius Caninus have a long and happy life!

     

    "Tiberius Caninus"? Well, that's a good Latin name for a dog. I had anagrammed Tiberius before with PP's own family name, but this has inspired me as well:

     

    Caius Rubinstein

    = Tiberius Caninus

     

    A nice Judeo-Roman alias for one of the "chosen" puppies.
