  1. I read this book when it came out and it was quite good in my opinion. My understanding is Winterling hasn't altered the historical consensus too much but I thought he made some very good arguments and approached the source material with some healthy skepticism (though at times his application of skepticism seemed uneven). I would really like to see an academic discussion on the subject to get some point/counter-point. Reading a book like this is great, but one thing I learned from my college days is it really helps to to see the conversation play out in journals, debates or in books written in response.
  2. Running a table-top rpg set during the reign of Caligula and want to make use of Atanius Secundus (an Equestrian who was humiliated by caligula by being forced to fight in the arena). I have always found Roman names a bit tricky but I want to get the character right. Since every source only supplies the two names "Atanius" and "Secundus" I am having a bit of difficulty trying to determine what his fathers name might be or what his sister might be named (I was going to go with Atania Secunda but I suspect that may be off). Any one have any suggestions?
  3. Thanks for posting. I am in Boston, so won't be able to attend. Do you know if the lecture will be streamed online?
  4. Hello, I am new to the forum but a long time lurker. Recenlty put out my own alternate history rpg set during the reign of Caligula. Thought it may be of interest to some of the posters here. The game is called Servants of Gaius and built around the premise that Caligula was really a god: Servants of Gaiud PDF Brendan
