  1. Done already? Education today.... Anyway, I think we'll have to force GO to guess it, whatever it takes.
  2. No. The end of something more tangible, connected to Rome (the city).
  3. No. The columns celebrate the end of something (or the beginning, depending on how you look at it).
  4. No worries. Someone else needs to step up, though. I see people browsing this thread all the time. It takes at least one guess to get a clue.
  5. Ok, I'll bite. What's that? ---> Oh and yes, it is easy
  6. Diana. This is Venus. Your turn!
  7. No need, it is Baia. The 'temple of Mercury' indeed has an oculus, but it also has two bigger sisters. http://www.ulixes.it/images/i_mappa_terme.gif
  8. If it pleases the Pater Arcanae he may also PM his guesses. This way he will not embarrass himself the proles will not be intimidated by his vast knowledge of ancient cities.
  9. Ah yes, scale is everything http://www.shunya.net/Pictures/Turkey/Aege...key/didyma2.jpg
  10. Would have been amazing to see it intact. The placement of the columns seems to be much denser than usual, is there a reason for that? It seems to me it could barely allow passage for a single person. Since no one has stepped up, here's the next picture:
  11. I'd rather have someone else go next. Open floor, anyone who wants to can post a picture.
  12. I was just editing my last reply, I think I found it
  13. I feared there would not be enough active members here to keep it running. But I'll play as long as you're up for it. Come on people, it's fun and educational edit: Oops, I tried Google and found it....it's Didyma.
  14. Should be easy enough, as the Med is basically a net recipient of oil.
  15. The Roman army of the fifth century suffered from lack of money and reinforcements. However, it was still superior to the 'barbarians'. They never lost a major battle throughout the century afaik. I believe Gaul was still solidly under Roman control until 461, and lost because of political upheaval rather than military weakness.
  16. I don't know, those places always make me want to throw up. Or go on a murdering rampage. Either way, I like to avoid it if I can There's something about the crowds there that makes them even more stupid and revolting than at other places like the Pantheon, which is usually really bad as well (crowd-wise of course, I would never insult the second most perfect Roman building). Travelling alone is the key there. If you travel together you will nearly always stand out as tourists.
  17. At 400 euros a room it better be Anyway, not much to add to what was already said. If it's your first time in Rome, you should stick to the usual sights I guess, although if I were you I'd avoid the Trevi fountain and the Spanish Steps like the plague. Oh, and watch your stuff in the metro. I've seen people get robbed too many times.
  18. Maladict: "....and that concludes this summary on the EU's policy of agricultural subsidies". Cato: "Interesting. Furthermore I am of the opinion that the city of Tunis should be destroyed".
  19. Yes, it is Portus. Well done. I couldn't accept Ostia as they are two distinct cities. They both had their own episcopal see, for example. The basin and its surroundings are private property of the Torlonia family, which is why you won't often see it mentioned. It is perfectly preserved, with the remains of some warehouses and shipyards.
  20. Shame, you're really close.
