  1. Sorry, PP .... don't know much about that kind of stuff.
  2. Thanks for that. So it would seem that Galba at least thought he was safe from Vespasian. Granted, following Galba's death things went to hell in a handbasket at an even faster rate, but are you aware of any mentions of Vesapasian during Otho or Vitellius' reigns? Were there any messages exchanged, etc? Congratulations or otherwise?
  3. I've been reading "69 AD - The Year of the Four Emperors" by Gwyn Morgan in which he chronicles the event of that fateful year. I'm about 1/3 of the way through and we're up to the point where Otho's and Vitellius' troops are on the verge of coming to blows. The book quotes heavily throughout from the ancient sources, but thus far there has been no reference to either Galba, Otho, or Vitellius making mention of Vespasian. I'm not certain if Morgan has perhaps omitted any such references to add to his chronological storytelling and that he'll get to it eventually when Vespasian makes his bid for power, or if truly none of the 3 took him into account in their various civil war / usurper equations. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I would think that any good usurper would take stock of any and all rivals out there ... especially those with legions in the field. Were there any attempts to bring Vespasian into the fold or nullify his influence by any of the 3 (prior to Vitellius' defeat of Otho that is)?
  4. I knew you would be glad I'm off my meds again, GO! Here's one from ... this thread.

  9. Yeah, its definitely got "Troma" written all over it. I also think it sounds like fodder for the boys at MST3K:
  10. If I had a "re-do" ... I'd go with "The Patrician Magician"!
  11. Yes. Same thing. But I think setting up an RSS feed for the articles that are written (or new message board topics) would be very, very cool.
  12. I'm going to guess that was unheard of. The whole point of adopting was to bring in a male whose ancestry had the proper gravitas so as to dignify your own ancestry. (Of course there were instances of it being the other way around where a Plebian would adopt a Patrician so that they could stand for tribune. Eg: Clodius).
  13. Here is Wikipedia's explanation ... click. Basically, it allows somebody to have a summary of the latest articles or msg board topics directly on their homepage (such as My Yahoo!, etc.) For example, here is part of a screen capture of my home page showing an RSS feed's from a football site I go to, ProFootballTalk.com, as well as a local news website: So if you had an UNRV RSS feed, it would show the 5 most recent UNRV articles or maybe the 5 most recent message board topics.
  14. Very interesting, Maty. Thanks. Would the adoptee still have a relationship with his birth family? I would think it would be somewhat awkward since the Patricians would all travel in the same social and career circles.
  15. Also, would an adoptee's birth and adopted ancestry both be taken into account when arranging marriages?
  16. Have you guys ever looked into having RSS news feeds available for your site? I think an RSS feed for new articles and also The Forum would be great.
  17. I see where for the ruling class the ability to trace your roots back to significant historical figures was given much weight. The entire Patrician class seemed to care just about nothing else it seems! But what about if you were one of the many males who were adopted into a Patrician family? Did you still get to claim the same impressive ancestry as your adopted family? Did you get to invoke ancestors from both your birth and adopted families? For example, would the Emperor Tiberius have been able to claim a connection to Aenaeus and Venus as he was adopted into the Julians? Or would "Scipio the younger" be able to invoke Scipio Africanus even though he was adopted into that family? Because he was born into the Aemilii Pauli clan, would he have been able to claim that ancestry as well?
