  1. The long awaited 1.0 build of EB for RTW has been released. It has been -years- in development and here it is! http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93132 Get it at the Guild (link) or Twcenter.net
  2. Skarr, Thanks, I'll check out the first one you suggested. The second, I can't read French but may look for it just for the maps.
  3. Thanks for that suggestion Caius, I just installed Europa Barbarorum over the weekend and it is great. It breathed new life into RTW and the scripting feature is excellent, I can't wait till 218BC for hannibal to invade. Historically speaking EB is a high step above RTR and the AI is excellent. The depressing thing about RTW and RTR is the AI is rather remedial, even on hard, however EB's AI actually employs cavalry, attempts to flank your units, and utilizes ranged infantry much more strategically. Overall it is a great mod, thanks for brining EB to our attentions. Not a problem in the least, glad to be of service Ursus. If you ever get tired of EB (You won't I haven't, I have RTW installed twice one for EB and the other for RS) You might want to read all of the read-mes because as it is realistic it's also harder. Like you don't get a "Marian reform" without doing ALOT of stuff. You need a "Charismatic, selfless (or selfish ) general, set number of battle fought and some other things. Same thing as the Augustian reforms . I don't know how long you have played. But BEWARE of Carthage. I have been thrashed...about 40 times in 20 years. Almost lost sicily. Also, I want to know, Roma Svrrectvm's AI is on par with EB if not better. (They did something with 'command units' which I refer to in another thread. Either way, both mods are killer
  4. Yeah, I haven't made the leap to buying yet. Been tinkering with my girlfriends copy, as of right now I think just the area of England around Hadrian's wall. Rather low population as of right now (still very very much a beta) Though it is actually quiet fun. Though since I have been tinkering with her character...I'm a barbarian woman (Ahem...) But still fun, you can craft things (though not all crafting has been implimented yet) But the community is really ingenious haybale forts and the like
  5. Alright, sucks that it is going to be fictiony but I'll deal. I'm also picking up biographies on Julius and Augustus. And "The Civil War" after having just finished "The Conquest of Gaul" for about the 15th time. Is there any other books that any of you would recommend?
  6. Salve, CJ. I haven't read it nor found a review at UNRV. But Viggen states it was the fifth bestselling book at UNVR during 2005 (Sequitur). Alright, thank you. I guess it can't be that bad then. I just saw it in Borders the other day and thought I would I would give it a read. I'll write up a review when I am done with it.
  7. Anyone read "Caesar's Legion: The Epic Saga of Julius Caesar's Elite Tenth Legion and the Armies of Rome" by Stephen Dando-Collins? If so, what did you think of it? And if not I think I will pick it up in a few days and maybe write a review when I am done. Thanks.
  8. www.Roma-Victor.com Massive multiplayer online RPG, I have not played it yet ( I am holding of, my girlfriend is currently playing it and I will make my decision based off her) But check it out, and tell me what you think. I believe it is still in beta.
  9. Ursus, Vanilla RTW, is horrible I know. 3 faction system....(yeah, I really have nothing to say on the 3 faction system that doesn't turn my stomach) You should try one of the excellent mods. RTR is mentioned alot on this board, but their are a few that are better. (Don't get me wrong everyone RTR is fine and fun. But it's not -that- realistic) if you are looking for about as real as RTW can get try Europa Barbarium. And if you want the slightly relaxed gameplay of RTR with some added features try Roma Surrectum. Or stick with the tried and tested RTR
  10. I haven't given RTW a go in a while. This mod sounds interesting. Is it an early 'beta' version or is it complete and playable? They have released their first version (and 10 hotfixes) It is COMPLETELY playable. They are working on another version (to add more features.) but the ones that they have now are fully implemented. I have not witnessed any bugs or CTD. I have only been playing it for a week. But hold Italy, Sicily, sardinia, corsica, Carthage, and a large chunck of spain) The Marian reforms have just happened yesterday and I have been swapping out Republician Legio I,II, and III Italia for Marian forces. And I found another really cool thing in Rome I have recruited "Caesar" Now apparently, it is a general and the description says "Campaign with this man, then when he becomes a family member make him your faction leader for him to take his rightful place. I wonder if it causes a "You marched on Roma." Even or something like that. But I'll keep you updated.
  11. Avi! I have seen a few threads for RTR (Rome: Total Realism) and thought of a few more mods that some of you may like Europa Barbarorum: Most likely the definitive realism mod. Include all roman military reforms (Camilian, Polybian, Marian, and Augustian). Special attention has been payed to the 'Barbarian' factions. The Gauls being split into two factions in an effort to show the main coalitions. Buildings and units have been reworked (Really long battles and new, lots of units) incorporation of provinces into your empire has changed. You no longer simply conquer the territory. Once it falls under you control, you have to build a "Military occupation" building (Not an actual building that is visible. It just signifies that you have pacified the population) and then decide what you will do with the province (Full incorperation, Client state, ex.) which changed the income and what can be built and recruited. Link to TWcenter mod forum: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdispla...desc&page=2 Roma Surrectum (Rome Rising): This is my present favorite (I also play EB but this one I just discovered about a week ago) It's only problem is lacking the Camilian and Augustian military reforms. But it easily makes up for this with named and numbered recruitable legions. Which totally satisfied my need to march into Gaul at the head of Caesar's army. (Legio X Gallica(sp) was actually the first I recruited. That is along with my early republican forces). Each legion also have their own skins. This mod also makes and attempt at historical accuracy (But no naked barbarians ) Though not as intensively as EB (refer above).
