Hello all... I'm obviously new to the forums, but am curious as to whether someone could recommend to me what they consider to be the best first book that someone interested in getting into Roman history should look into. In all honesty, I know very little on the topic and there is just so much stuff out there that it's kind of daunting when looking into where to start. I'm guessing that a good survey/overview would be best to start with, but if not feel free to tell me so. I'm open to any suggestions, thanks in advance.
