  1. I must unfortunately confess that I cannot find my shots of the ship details (which most probably means that I never took any pictures of them), but you'll find them in the Palazzo Massimo (Next to the Termini station) if you go to Rome again. On the matter of books on the subject, I've never even seen them mentioned. It is incredible that they can stay this unknown! My next scheduled trip to Italy is in the Springtime again =) I am hoping to make it to Lake Nemi and to the museum this time. I was this close *shows fingers pinched together* at hopefully going this last time around, but that did not happen. I am glad to know that I am not the only one that does not know of any books made on this topic. I find it really odd how they find that the Nemi ships are one of the biggest discoveries not only to maritime history, but also to ancient history as well in so many ways, yet no one has written. You would think how with finding the Nemi Ships with all the breakthroughs that happend that there would be at least 2-3 books out there since so much got found out that no one knew about, but all that there seems to be is articles =( I think we can have a project...lets write a good book on the Nemi Ships Hopefully, that way, more of the world can be informed of them. It was sad, in Rome, I mentioned these ships to a few people that worked at different places around Rome (Palentine Hill, Colosseum etc) and I only had one person out of around 10-12 that even had a clue on what I was talking about!
  2. Speaking of inaccurasies (sorry for the spelling) in Alexander. I will quote one of my favourite people Craig Ferguson (Host of the Late Late Show in Amerika). He talks about (quite often) how a Scottsman or an Englishman somehow works their way into every one of these films. Not that I have ANYTHING against them mind you =). It is the same in Troy (with Brad Pitt). They did not even speak English let alone come from areas of the world speaking English that have these kinds of accents! Ever since Craig mentioned this, I look for it in almost every movie, and sure enough! I normally find at least one or 2. Of course I am not counting movies where there ARE supposed to be people with those accents in them
  3. So many movies have so many inaccuracies in so many ways, but some of them are just so "out of realism", they get to the point of being just hillarious. IE: The movie "Nero: The Decline of the Empire", where Hans Matheson plays Nero from Rai Radiotelevisione Italiana (Same company that did "Augustus")....they have Caligula being Emperor for around 12 years! Quite the stretch from his real reign of 37-41 and he gets murdered by being taken to a brothel. I have seen a part of one movie in passing (only watched it for around 10 minutes since it was so bad around 2 yrs ago) where the Colosseum was built and getting used before the Flavian Dynasty was even in existance. Think they had it where Nero was the one who finished the Colosseum and enjoyed the Games well before his death. What are your favourite major blunders in movies that just are not inaccurate, but so far stretched it can cause someone to just roll their eyes and wonder how anyone could ever come up with anything so far fetched.
  4. Thank you Nephele! This is MORE than intresting =) I have copied it down so I never forget this one. This fits me so well. Epona (hehe)
  5. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32235713/ns/te...e/wid/11915829/ This story is from 24,June 09, just located it. Video included in link.
  6. So very welcome. When I go back in Spring again, I will post up more that I take. It is sad that so much of the propaganda of that time has depicted people in so many false ways. Even going to places in Rome, in one area it seems like you can see and read one "version" about someone or something that has happend, then go to a different place and it is completely different. I cant remember the name of the museum that I stopped into quickly (since it was closing in about 30 minutes by the time I got there), but just in that little time, I think that I must have seen 2-3 different versions of how Nero was supposed to look. Wish that I could have gotten a photo of it, but there were signs saying "No photos", so didnt want to take the chance. Too bad cameras ,or a version of, were not around in Ancient Times (not counting paintings, sculptures etc) to accurately see how things and people really did look. At least we do have them now though so we can all share with others the sites.
  7. It's a great documentary, if it's the same as I've seen a while ago! Anyway, I'll upload the pictures as soon as I get home from work. Klingan, This is one of the best and most informative documentaries that I have ever seen done on the Nemi ships. They deserve to have more information about them out there, but unfortunately, so few people that I have talked to about them have ever even heard of them. The documentary is on Netflix (do not know if you are a member or not) to get sent to your house if you ever want to see it again. I have yet to find it online in full to watch on any "free movie" sites unfortunately, since I would love to see it again as well. Do you or anyone else happen to know if any books have been written on the ships at all? I own so many books about Caligula, along with so many others from other Roman time periods, but have yet to find any even in Rome, about these ships.
  8. The album was on private somehow...it is now public. Enjoy!
  9. Medusa, I took a read on your link. Intresting! I wish that there was more from the Ancient Times about the Gladiatrix; sculptures, drawings, pottery etc. Are any of these items available to see online that have the drawings/paintings or anything else of the Gladiatrix?
  10. I can not remember if it was on a website that I read about this or one of my Caligula or Roman books that I have. I read that the cult went on even as Claudius was Emperor for a little while and that the cult went underground so people could keep it "alive". From what I remember reading, this went on for around 9 months to a year before it completely got desolved (or from the time that people thought it was all desolved, but it was still underground and very private?) under Claudius
  11. There are many good albums here too if you enjoy looking at other peoples photos as well! And welcome hey Klingan! Thanks for the welcome =) I have been noticing some other VERY nice fotos on here that others took. Can never get enough of looking through the eyes of someone elses camera. No 2 shots are ever alike! Rompe
  12. http://s708.photobucket.com/albums/ww88/Romperome/ If you can not get into it, PLEASE let me know. Any questions about any of the fotos, feel more than free to ask. There are a few of on the airplane and such that you can just ignore, all the others are from Rome itself! If the link does not work, please let me know and I will find another way of posting them up. I have around 200+ photos of my latest trip to Rome...that was back in April/May. Enjoy!
  13. Ooo, I'd love to see those! You can put up some photos in a topic in the Hora Postilla Thermae, the "After Hours Baths." -- Nephele Thank you thank you thank you for the info on where to put those =) I have up a fotobucket of around 200+ fotos that I got while over there on my last (unfortunately short) journey to Rome. I am heading over right now to put up a link to the fotobucket (since posting all of those would take up WAY to much space) so all can see =)
  14. Glad to see that this topic has been brought up! I am a female who would LOVE to get into Gladiator re-enactment, just have NO clue on where to turn. (I have lots of fight training and am 6

  16. Thank you very much Ingsoc for the welcome and to Sylla for the "for beginners" link (which I truely am to message boards). I have been able finally to do some searching and find some intresting postings that have been made up on Caligula. So very nice to see Not to go off of the topic of the Republic, but a few topics I wanted to bring up about Caligula that I have not found anywhere else on the board (may have been put up and buried and I did not find)... 1) Caligula and his magnificent boats that he had constructed for him. So amazing how these were found and so sad how so much of them were destroyed. I have found one good documentary that talks about these boats. (I think it was a Histroys Mysteries or one like that) I was wondering if anyone has any further information on these than what I can find online (very little) and that was in this documentary. http://www.archaeology.org/0205/abstracts/caligula.html (Link on Floating Palace Boats I found for those who are not familar) Was wondering if anyone knows with these if they have done any further restoration as they talked about in the documentary? I really wanted to make it to Lake Nemi while I was in Rome, but unfortunately couldnt. 2) Cult of Caligula. During Caligulas reign, they had a main "Cult of Caligula" that ended up mainly dying out after his death, but some carried it on. I can not find a lot of information in and out of books that I would like to on this topic. I am trying to find out more in depth information about what went on inside of the cult, how long it actually went on (estimated) etc.
  17. Thank you Gaius Paulinus Maximus and to everyone else who has sent me very warm welcomes on this board! This is the only message board I have tried in a LONG time, kind of rusty on them, but really liking what I am finding on this board. I have been doing a lot of checking on the different topic columns and am finding some intresting topics that have been brought up about Caligula, Nero and many other topics that I am intrested in as well. So so nice Hope to see everyone in the different topics and make some great conversation! PS...do not know if this is the right place to ask or not (yes, you can give me a finger shake if Im naughty and posting in the wrong section!) but, is there a certain place where I would be able to post up a few fotos that I took when I went to Rome in May? I would love to share with others the lovely sites and shots that I got!
  18. I got the scrambled up letters of knomepnrye I am female...cant wait to see what name I get! =) Thank you Nephele for this suggestion and for the welcome!
  19. This is an AWESOME piece of news that you have put up. Appreciate it! I was wondering if there was any colour on any of the sculptures, columns etc...this has really answered a lot of my questions and opens up so many more.
  20. Greetings everyone, I am very into Caligula. I am finding it very hard to find others that are into Caligula and/or study Caligula, his reign, rule, etc. I have been researching Caligula (in and out of Rome) for many years now. Wondering if anyone else would be willing to start a topic on Caligula and discuss Him and his Empire?
