  1. Very true, Caesar was a great general and politician. He was a man of many talents. I have always thought that his Victory over Pompey in Greece proved that he was one of the best generals Rome had ever seen.
  2. What is Scotland like? I have always wanted to go there ~Thanks for the welcome Northern Neil!
  3. Welcome aboard, Centurion Marco! -- Nephele Thanks for the welcome!
  4. I have always thought that Spartacus was such a good general for two reasons and two reasons only. 1) He was a Roman solider before going gladiator, so he knew what tactics were good and what were bad against the Legions. This usually kept him one step ahead of the Romans, because he knew how they liked to fight. 2) Spartacus had an army with good moral. They all fought for freedom, and so one could argue that they had a edge over the Roman legionaries. The Spartacus army knew that they had a good commander that they trusted, and so they obeyed all orders without hesitation.
  5. I think that it was quite Romanized, although it was very near the out rim of the empire so it kept a few of its Celtic beliefs I think. I know that it was unsettled before Britain was conquered by Claudius, because the British had contact with a lot of the Northern Gallic tribes.
  6. I just have to say...74 gladiators to start off with, thats not a lot when you think about what he did, I mean he gathered an army of over 100,000 in a few years, and it all started off with those gladiators... Anyway, I heard that the figure was 72 from one book, but I can't remember what the name was. But it is true that most round the numbers to something like 70.
  7. I think that Caesar is Great because he was the conquer of Gaul. But then again there are others. I have always liked Pompey the great as well as Cicero. I would have to say that Pompey was one of the Greatest figures, mostly because of his victories and his personality.
  8. I suppose it was the Navy and the Legions that first got me interested in the Roman civilization. But now It is a bit of everything, because I like the politics of Rome now and their culture and Gods.
  9. I am living in New Zealand, but I was born in England.
  10. Hello everyone. My name is centurion-Macro and I have been interested in history ever since I was a kid. My favorite is Roman history, which I always read about. I am especially interested in the Roman Legions and Navy. I like reading Roman fiction as well, like the Eagle series. I am not an expert with Roman history, but I am still useful in the discussions and I am willing to learn.
