Well Moon, if they have a bit of common sense (rare, these days) and somehow manage to escape with a good sense of personal responsibility, I think they turn out OK. Especially if they have a good friend or two who will help them through the issues that their childhood will have invariably left them with.

Actually, I've noticed a lot of "ancient sci-fi" to. I can't think of any specific examples, but a lot of women in sci fi seem to be wearing Greek or Roman type garments. Armor is often modeled (albeit LOOSELY) off of ancient sources as well; either Greek, Roman or Medieval. So are a lot of weapons.

What is the WORST Rome related movie/show you've ever seen?

Empire was a shocking massacre of history. Still, I enjoyed it. If only because I thought Tyrranus was cute. -
LMAO!!!! On a computer screen: "No keyboard detected. Press F1 to continue" (gotta love Microsoft!!!) On a Robodrill: "Engage key and keyway each other." (Gotta love Japanese to En(grish) translations!) On the morning news: "9 out of ten people killed in last night's wreck are dead this morning...." (I love the morning news. The anchors are all half asleep. It's funny.)

World's Biggest Dork? (even I'm not usually this bad)
Lost_Warrior commented on Lost_Warrior's blog entry in Lost_Warrior's Blog
Yes they may have. I don't think anyone caused this, actually, I think it was a case of "slippy fuzzy socks on carpeted stairs" syndrome. I ALWAYS fall down those stairs. Jupiter seemed to want to know if I was OK. I heard Morrigan laughing her ass off and Juno just seemed to shake her head. -

It would have been wine had I been old enough to purchase wine legally. Grape juice is an OK substitute, considering I'm 19 and live in the States but it would not be my first choice. -
World's Biggest Dork? (even I'm not usually this bad)

OK, I must deserve some sort of prize for this one. You know, for my superior grace and dignity. Here's the story: I was coming down with an ear infection this weekend. Now, I'm prone to ear infections, especially in my right ear. I know what they feel like. They can be excruciating! Normally, I would get myself to the doctor for antibiotic drops STAT however it was Sunday. I was no way no how going to the emergency room for an ear infection, so I did what I could to patch myself up at home. If it wasn't better by today, I planned to see a doc. To that, I added a prayer to my deities and a promise of a half a bottle of sparkling grape juice (I normally offer a few ounces every week) and this was accepted. I got the feeling that it was accepted immediately, and lo and behold, this morning, my ear was feeling much better and continued to get better throughout the day. (Keeping in mind, that it had gotten bad enough that it *doesn't* improve with home remedies. It was well beyond "I feel one coming on" and had gotten into "definitely infected" territory). As promised, I poured the half bottle (more than that, actually) into my libation bowl on my altar. A whole bottle wouldn't have fit even; the bowl was quite full. I said a few quick words of thanks and left it on my altar for a few hours. After that, I planned to take it outside and pour it into the ground; I don't like to leave juices on my altar overnight they tend to turn sour. I *planned* to take it outside; here's what really happened: I picked up the bowl, and took it out of my room, as usual. I started to walk down the steps, carefully (!) carrying the bowl. Halfway down the steps, I slipped. Classic, feet in the air, flat on my ass, butt plant in the middle of the stairs. A veritable fountain of grape juice all OVER the stairs. All OVER the walls. All OVER my clothes, AND my head. I screamed and sat there quite stunned for a moment. Commenced swearing. Got up, started scrubbing as best I could, the grape juice out of the stairs and off the walls. Pour what's left of grape juice outside. Come inside, change clothes, take a second shower, wash grape stained clothes. Whoever decided that stairs should be carpeted must DIE I tell you!!! Fortunately the carpet is old, ugly, patterned and pretty non-stainable. Nothing will show up on it. I don't know what hurts worse; my ass or having to clean up the mess!! So who did I piss off? -

I agree 100% however I also do not use the homepage much, so my opinion doesn't count for as much as those who are using it always. -
Looking for controversy? I would much more expect that of some others, but not you! Honestly I have no opinion whatsoever of Ostara. The holidays that I personally give credence to are Samhain, Yule, Beltane, Midsummer and Lughnasadh. I give passing notice to Lammas (that's the autumnal equinox, right?). Ostara I have really no opinion of however I included it because it is a part of the calender, which I only use because it's a convenient way to tell time in the context of divination.

I don't quite understand the "Celtic Cross" either, although I don't see it as a Christian symbol. The equal-armed cross, if I'm not mistaken, has been in use long before the Crucifixion.

GO~ The Wheel of the Year is a calendar, in the round. Each of the lines on the wheel represents a holiday. It's usually used by Wiccans, but I believe it is far older than Wicca. To use it in Runic divination, you basically use it to tell time. Where the Runes fall on the calendar tells approximately when you can expect prophesied events to occur. Nephele~ Not that I know of. Someone has probably ascribed different Runes to the different holidays however I do not.

I finished this, finally, in about 10 hours of work. There's a lot more symbolism in it than I intended...actually the unintended stuff seems to be the more meaningful. I made this to use with Runic divination.

Nope. those black beads are rainbow obsidian. The picture does not show the rainbows well unfortunately. And the others which kind of look like hematite are Tahitian pearls (of the Swarovski cultured veriety) -
This week was actually pretty good, all things considered. Still, I'm tired. I was sick over the weekend, and started out the week not being able to eat well, so I was already off to a nasty start. Add to that hormone fluctuations and a few other things, and well, it went well but I'm glad it's over. My beads from Fire Mountain came yesterday, and I made a couple of bracelets. I'm not entirely happy with them, for various reasons, but I am mostly satisfied with how they came out. Elemental Fire bracelet: Elemental Water bracelet: The Firelands: (a single image of a volcano in Hawaii. Photomanip. The original image looks nothing like this, it can be found Here. ) Flight of Desire: Enjoy!!

Legionary Literacy
Lost_Warrior replied to Gaius Octavius's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
Also, couldn't the signaculum be used similarly to a signet ring? But, it really doesn't take much literacy to know how to write or sign your name. -
Legionary Literacy
Lost_Warrior replied to Gaius Octavius's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
I don't think that your average legionary did have to be literate. I DO know that Centurions and above had to be literate, and since the sources make such a big deal of that, it seems to suggest that everyone else *didn't*. That said, I would think that, even if out of sheer boredom, you would learn the basics of literacy in the legions. -

I honestly preferred the old one. Although I like that the gallery and blogs are accessible though! -
