  1. Hello! I just wanted to say a quick 'Salve!' and draw members' attention to a documentary about your greatest enemy airing on BBCFour called 'On Hannibal's Trail'... It features my brothers and I on bicycles following the path of Hannibal from Cartagena to Carthage via Rome. It is not hardcore history but we do try and engage with the main events of the 2nd Punic War while we ride bicycles, visit archaeological sites, cross the Alps, recreate the big battles etc. You can find more information and watch it here on i-player at the BBC's Hannibal webpage: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t6skb and our website has more information too: www.woodbrothers.tv We're very keen for feedback so leave comments at the BBC-TV blog if you have the time: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/tv/2010/07/on-h...cling-fro.shtml or here! Thanks for your time. all the best Danny
  2. Thanks Ingsoc, M.Porcius Cato, Virgil and caldrail for taking the time to give it some thought. I appreciate your instructive comments. I'm still not sure if Hannibal did the right thing! all the best Danny
  3. Huns?? You mean Goths and Vandals? hhhmmm yes, sorry Barca! Attila the Hun got close but didn't quite sack Rome...so yes I mean the later sackings, so by Alaric the Visigoth in 410 or the later one by the Vandals...
  4. Dear Romans, August 2nd is the anniversary of your greatest defeat - the Battle of Cannae - where Hannibal and our Carthaginians easily defeated you in battle. No seriously, I was wondering if any of you think Hannibal could have gone on to take Rome after that big victory (which did take place on August 2nd apparently)? Like the Gauls did in the 4th century B.C and the Huns did much later. I am very keen for any views that could help me think about this as I try and write a blog for the anniversary on our website: www.woodbrothers.tv For any interested, our documentary series about Hannibal and the 2nd Punic War is currently airing on BBCFour in the United Kingdom. If you are in the UK you can watch it on the BBC i-player here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t6skb We're keen to know what you think about it too, so please let us know with comments on our website or at the BBC Television blog: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/tv/2010/07/on-h...cling-fro.shtml Thanks for your time. Kind regards Danny Wood
  5. Hello, I thought this forum might be interested to know that a new documentary series about Hannibal and the 2nd Punic War is currently airing on BBCFour in the United Kingdom. It is not an academic style of doco and the presenters are not celebrities - they are me and my younger brothers! - a journalist, an archaeologist and an IT developer. But we do our best to tell the story of Hannibal's invasion, ride it all on our bicycles, examine the battlefields and archaeological sites and meet local experts. If you are in the UK you can watch it on the BBC i-player here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t6skb There is more information at our website and video you can watch if you are outside the UK: www.woodbrothers.tv We're keen to know what you think, so please let us know with comments on our website or at the BBC Television blog: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/tv/2010/07/on-h...cling-fro.shtml Thanks for your time. Kind regards Danny Wood
