  1. First of all yes his cavalry were rendered useless. Because of the Elephants size compared to that of a horses, they would have been obviously spooked and would not of faced them face on. The only way Alexander's cavalry won the battle was after he successfully scatterd the enemies army by forcing the elephants to run over their own infantry. With the army running away it would of been an easy task for Alexander to wipe out the rest of the army. Second I'm quite sure that any sort of writings would of prepared Alexander or his soldiers for such a large force of elephants in the Indian army. Certainly if Alexander was face to face with a war trained elephant nothing could of prepared him for the strength and aggression these beasts are capable of And why are we talking about Huns and Mongols lol!
