Circus Found In Colchester

Recommended Posts

Remains of the only known Roman chariot racing track in Britain have been found in the former Roman capital, Colchester.

A spokesman for Taylor Woodrow, the housing firm which paid for excavation work at the site, said the walled structure was more than 350m (383yds) long, 70m (76yds) wide and appeared to be "one of the most significant Roman finds in Britain for decades".

Bob Russell, British Member of Parliament for Colchester has called for the town to be made into a World Heritage Site. Mr Russell said "I believe that Colchester's already strong case for inclusion in the UK list of applications has been dramatically boosted with this latest discovery, which is one of international significance".

Lumen is very proud to announce the launch of the only website dedicated to this unique find - Colchester Circus which will update daily with latest news and information regarding the on-going excavations at the site.
